God Bless His Sleepy Little Head

he's fading quickly into the zone
rubbing his eyes, dragging binky behind
He puts away his Fisher Price phone
No fight tonight - his mother won't mind.

smiling and amazed, for once, his notion
a warm dream catcher for a bed
rocking him gently like ships on an ocean
God Bless his sleepy little head

There's a bear in his arms and a Mickey Mouse clock
whose eyes watch for monsters who feed on lost socks
A soft furry pet, huddled snug at his feet
Which one of the two will first find sleep?

his eyes fluttering quickly, his smile so content
his mom's love surrounds like a nurturing tent
A kiss on his hair, splayed wildly on bed
Angels in the air God bless his sleepy head

to Poetry In Motion:

how's this?  not exactly the best poem i ever wrote,
but sort of an anthem, in a twisted way  *smile*

the Shadow Rider

Boots crush pebbles that are his only home
A road never traveled, the route is clearly drawn
Life's burdens secured on his back
Encased in canvas memories
There is always another crossroads -
Another decision
for the Rider of Shadows
This vagabond's road map is an endless timeline
Sick of asking directions
People always tell you where to go
Shadow Rider lives in a hurricane eye of his own making
But he travels alone

Freedom is never without a huge cost . . .

Shadow,
Very sweet, caring and sensitive. There is nary a more precious moment than resting your cheek on the head of your sleeping child. Wonderful poem.

ShadowRider - What a wonderful poem! I thoroughly enjoyed this with my coffee this morning - it brought a tear and a smile. Going into my library. Chris

you said it is not your best but it
is my favorite..i loved it SR..it reminds
me when i would fall asleep watching tv
when i was a little girl and my father
would carry me to bed.
