Slave to The Night

I once met a beautiful woman,
Or perhaps she met me.
It happened one day,
Or maybe one dream.
The day was sun-filtered and mild,
It seemed to be in between day and night.
Better yet, life and death.

I had wandered for what felt like an eternity,
Before stumbling upon a forgotten town.
Strange was this town,
Void of life
And quiet as a whisper.
But the presence of eyes I could feel,
And heartbeats of hunger I could hear.
It must have been my imagination,
For my reality was weary and beaten.

Seeking a place of rest,
I visited one stone household after another.
Only to find the inhabitants in darkened rooms,
Fast asleep.
Very strange indeed!
All the houses were filled with the same stench,
As if death had settled in comfortably.
Peculiar, had to be the name of this town.
I say that for a couple reasons;
For one, there were no windows anywhere,
Was this town afraid of light?
I also noticed that there were no wood amenities,
Not a single thing.
A strange feeling then overcame me,
But for the life of me,
I can't quite remember what it was.
My memory has been avoiding me,
Gradually widening the distance,
Of our once mutual friendship.

So, before I forget everything,
Let me tell you about this woman.
She crept upon me quietly,
Appearing out of nowhere.
But I was not startled,
Her beauty captivated me,
And held me hostage,
Easing my soul,
Then stealing my heart.
I remember her saying something,
About care taking,
And a problem with termites.
But I was not paying attention,
For I was hypnotized by her smile.
Her teeth were very lovely,
White as snow,
And sharp as a knife.
I could see them quite clearly,
As she whispered in my ear
And kissed me softly on my neck.

So here I sit in darkness,
In the middle of nowhere,
Trying to remember
The last thing she said to me.
It was something, like…………
"They will feed tonight."
It is at that moment of recollection,
That I hear the heartbeats of the night
Closing in on me.
I now remember the feeling,
That overcame me earlier,
As the terror of my soul screams out.
Sweet and mocking laughter is all I hear.
The voice of a beautiful woman
Here to earn her keep.

I would love to tell you the name of the town,
But my memories are forever lost.
I am now a sleeper of the day,
And a slave to the night.

Keith, quite the chilling tale here...or was it a dream?  Come sit by the fire with me and watch the snow fall.

This is a wonderful read that leads you on and on to the end. Creatures of the night always fascinated me anyhow, so I'm a little biased...lol. But, this really was awesome! Bravo!

This is eerie, but a well told tale, Early on, I was reminded of an old tune "Norwegian Wood"   Not the same story, but a few similar elements. Watch out for those night creatures! Especially the seductive ones.
