well since everyone is promoting there states i think its my turn.  north carolina girl i told you i would do this   here it goes

    

My home is in Virginia

i want to tell you about a place
a place that i call home
a place that i always return to
no matter how far i roam
home to many famous people
like george washington and robert e. lee
thomas jefferson, james madison
stonewall jackson, and warren beatty
we are a proud bunch of people
we have lots of home town pride
from the big and busy citys
to the sprawling country side
every little town and county
has a story to be told
for its a state full of history
and legends of old
the revolutionary war was fought here
the constitution formed here too
sometimes called the birthplace of the nation
we helped this country start anew
when the south broke away from the union
it was virginia that paid the price
over half of all the battles were fought here
many lives where sacrficed
but once again we rose to our feet
never staying down for long
for we are a land of survivors
we are brave and we are strong
from jamestown to richmond
fredericksburg, danville, and even d.c.
from the peaks of the blue ridge mountains
to the beaches and the shinning sea
next time you use aol
a part of virginia is there
for it was formed out in leesburg
for all the world to share
i might not have been born here
but this is the place for me
for i love the old dominion state
and my home it will always be...

atartime:  glad that you are enjoying these poems.  i love to learn and history.  and one thing i know about is virginia.  i didnt even scrape the barrel on all the history va has.  but if i did that this poem would need its own site it would be so long. hehehehe.  thanks for replying

bill:  charlottesville huh??  one of the places i lived in va was in orange county.  the next county over from there.  been in and out of cville many times on 29 and 64.  such a beautiful place and home of my favorite team the UVA cavs.  GO UVA!!!!
