My Suit Of Armor

I built a suit of armor
Crafted from the finest steel
To free me and protect me
So no hurt and pain I’d feel

The face shield large and heavy
It’s design it took me years
Welded, molded, fastened closed
To dam the flood of tears

My arms which once had held you
Were put into their place
Encased in metal, fastened tight
No longer to embrace

Legs that once had carried me
From one heartache to another
I immobilized with rivets strong
And bound them to each other

Last there came the breast plate
By far the thickest part
Encapsulated in layers deep
I laid my fragile heart

So now my suit is finished
The armor fits me well
But instead of freedom, I am trapped
In my solitary hell

---------------------------------------------------

My Suit Of Armor (Sequel)

I built my suit of armor
Crafted very well
Hid myself from all to see
Inside my metal shell

But in your wishful searching
You found a simple flaw
A mere imperfection on my part
That no one else had saw

My armor unpenetratable
Or so I once had thought
You found a way to get into
Even though I fought

You started with the faceshield
Took me by surprise
Loosed my tears, bared my face
To look into my eyes

Next my arms so tightly bound
You unwrapped to set them free
Teaching me to hold again
By holding on to me

The legs that I had shackled
So I could walk no more
Once unbound, you led the way
To new worlds to explore

Last there came the breast plate
The strongest from the start
But you worked your way beneath its steel
And touched my very heart

At last I stood before you
My armor at my feet
You won this battle I’ll admit
But I don’t claim defeat

Yes, the armor's piled here
Reflected in your light
Its metal strong, now is dulled
But I am shining bright

YAY!!! I LOVE IT, SWEET FRIEND, THIS IS ONE OF YOUR UTMOST BEST!!! (big hugggssssss) I'm so happy you wrote a powerful sequel to end this erpic of your loving heart, for in the end, we are scarred and our armor is broken in battle, but we are standing happy having become the loving people we dream of being! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is fabulous! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ruth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light alwyas shine upon you!

These two pieces are so well done and I love that you posted them together. Cupid special arrows can penetrate the heaviest of armor. Very nice work. Cheryl

You do indeed shine... brighter than armor ever could, even when polished and reflecting sunbeams. *S* And it is so good to see your glow here on the blue pages... welcome back! This is beautiful, Hoot... a progression written with perfection... holding out hope to those still encased. *S*

Ruth,
I enjoyed this very much. It was a very visual building and tearing down of the protection. The man's name wasn't "Lance" was it? That would make your joust with love a bit twilight-zonish.

I've wanted my own suit of armor a time or two but family, friends have time and again showed me it's better to let your emotions run free than to keep them bottled inside.

You words are beautiful.  I understand and love them.

Very nicely written, Ruth.  You are a very fine poet, and a pretty special person, too.
