Mitten shaped
the Great Lake State
water surrounds
commerce abounds

cars and pills and papermills
wheels and steel
industrial deals

winter air of crystal glow
rainbow diamonds, lake effect snow
ski boards, snow boards, common sights
landscapes, snowy drifts of white

springtime buds, late blooms emerge
their growth slowed down by winter's urge
a season we can never trust
as flowers cry in snowy dust

summer beauty, trees and sails
woods and lakes and hiking trails
big burr oaks and sandy beaches
hidden coves and sandy reaches

autumn spirit, red and gold
redeem the thoughts of coming cold
pumpkin patches, apples, green
Great Lake State, some Michigan scenes

you have to love it here. . . why would you go anywhere else???

hey, as a fellow Michigander (or, is that Michiganian??   ), I love this. . . it's why I love to live here. . . even in the winter. . .

Madame Chipmunk - Beautifully descriptive piece. You could almost be speaking of Ontario,Canada, where I am from. Neighbours all of us. Chris

I was born and raised in Michigan - we are Michiganders - It is incredibly beautiful in any season. Sigh. But I dislike the shoveling of that lovely white stuff as it piles up in the driveway....here, I shovel sunshine!

Seamless!  You should send this to the Michigan Department of Tourism or commerce.  They'd love it!

Lyra - This is such a great write about MI, it almost makes me want to move there, despite there wretched pizza.   See, you were smart to leave out the pizza, because it is so bad it would of sucked all the beauty out of this poem.

Victoria, Thanks...Michigan does have gorgeous summers, but the rest of the seasons are nice here also...unless you don't like driving in the snow.

Sven, It looks like we are neighbors.  My younger son graduated from MSU...in East Lansing.

Pepper...thanks, It was my pleasure to give you a prelude to the tour of Michigan

You're right, Noah...Autumn is the most beautiful of all of the seasons here...although I truly love all of them.

Joanna...Its not that cold here, you're just not used to it.  People who live here grow their skin real thick so we don't get cold.

Elizabeth...I'm glad you enjoyed the little weather tour of Michigan.  We sure do have a lot of weather here.

Bart...thanks for the suggestion about the Bureau of Tourism, maybe I'll send it to them.

Martin and Vandana...thanks for reading and replying and also for enjoying.

PDV, Karilea and Mother Earth...thanks for your replies.  Its nice to know that you have all, at one time or another lived here and enjoyed it.

Karen...I'm glad you enjoyed the poem, and hope that you do get a chance to visit Michigan

Dave...I actually wrote this poem a long time ago...before our pizza war began; and thats why I didn't mention it in the poem.  It looks like I will have to write a special poem about our delicious pizza and dedicate it to you.
