Lavender Blue

Memories of purple and lavender blue
Wisteria draping in mist of the dew
Fragrance of lilacs swept up by the wind
It’s essence still lingering deeply within

I still see you standing by lavender blue
A soft floral curtain of fragrance that grew
And gracefully hung on the age weathered vine
Just where you stood as your eyes met with mine

I thought you’d become my true soul mate for life
I would have treated you well as your wife
Why you just left me there, I never knew
But you waved as you walked by forget-me-not blue

I still can recall the sad look on your face
That made you return to a far away place
To this day I don't really understand why
I just waited for you under blue of the sky

I have no letters or pictures to keep
Though you are still with me in thoughts soft and deep
I remember so well the sweet portrait of you
As you stood by beautiful lavender blue

Ah, Liz, another incredibly beautiful poem, of lost love and remembrance...lovely and haunting! Hugs, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Elizabeth, a sad but oh so beautiful poem. "Lavender Blue" brought tears to my eyes...I guess most of us have experienced this type of loss at least once...if we're fortunate...only once.

Very lovely, Elizabeth...there used to be a song way back when I was in high school called "Lavender Blue"...I don't recall the words because it was so long ago.....back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
Well done!

Liz--I remember the song Lyla mentioned.."Lavender blue, dilly dilly, lavender green..then you'll be king dilly dilly, and I'll be your queen"

A beautiful poem of lost love and the color of sad feelings.  Hugs!
