Dear God

“Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard.
But it was not this way from the beginning.” NIV Matthew 19:8

Please dear God don’t let daddy go away
Let mommy know how much I love them both
And just because each has another way
They argue! Are about to break an oath.

My mommy told me, she loves me, today
But she’s to busy with her work downtown
And daddy said he loves me in his way
He dropped me off at school without a sound.

I hear them talking when I’m out of sight
About each other picking something wrong
What can’t they get together, sing at night
I know a very, very pretty song.

The other night they told me they must part
Separate with daddy moving somewhere
You know how sad I am, it broke my heart
And so I come to you, dear God in prayer.

Bring my mommy and daddy back in Love
Dear God, I need your help from up above.

Dear God.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Newell, this poem broke my heart, it is so sad and my heart cries out to all these poor children who have to experience their parents divorce! (sad sigh) My heart joins them all in their prayers, sweet friend, I know deep down He can bring all families together if these parents believe in it! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! So sad but beautiful! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Newell, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

You are right, Startime. Many times it cannot be fixed. My folks divorced when I was about eight. I was the oldest of three children, a sister seven and a brother four.

We struggled and grew up okay. My mother was close to God and we were in church with a lot of support from the congregation.

Often I feel that divorce is the least of undesireable alternatives. It is sad, but it takes God to mend people's hearts--There must be God's love in both parents. Thanks for commenting.

A sad but very good poem...divorce needs to be seen from the child's viewpoint. So many times a child feels responsible when parents divorce. Although many times divorce is necessary, the children should be the first priority in both parent's lives. I'm thankful you were inspired to write this poem.
