In the telling of my story
In the shadow of your good bye
I smile and pretend
You didn’t make me cry

I walk through each day
With my head held high
I give no evidence
That you made me cry

Sometimes I forget
And catch my breath mid sigh
But you won’t see the traces
Of the tears I don’t cry

My heart is still whole
I only sometimes lie
But the truth remains
You’ll never see me cry

I live my life in happiness
I never wonder ‘why’
See my busy life??
I have no time to cry

No, I will not love you
Until the day I die
You were never a part of me
I have no tears to cry

I look at my reflection
Smile and say “nice try”
Painfully wipe away the tears
Spilled from your good bye

~SEA~

with all that you are...
with all that you know...
love......

How beautifully you write of how we defend and protect our vulnerability, so important to keep our hearts safe from the pain that shatters us so easily.... Hugs, Ellie

Sea - Very good.  It is so tough to act tough on the outside, when on the inside you are so very sad.  You captured that feeling very well.

Very well done, SEA!  I do like the constant of the last lines of each stanza.

Oh Sue!  How much have you grown?  WOW!
Your depth just blows me away!
This takes me to a place I would rather forget...but, done so beautifully.

Okay, I confess, I keep a box of Puffs Plus with lotion by the screen for times like these!  Jeez, this is sorrowful and touched me.

SEA - Only tears of happiness should dampen your cheeks. Well done. Chris

You bring back memories, SEA. Tonight, again, I wipe away tears of a love from 50 years ago. Thank you for again allowing me to remember her and wipe away tears.

This is one of the most honest poems about feelings I've ever read.

It's excellent.   More please, more.

You capture that inner conversation too many of us are familiar with ... Denial and the hope that such denial will spare us from thinking another gains any satisfaction from our pain .... when owning it, feeling it and then releasing it ultimately frees us and allows us to move on.

Beautiful, empathetic poem
