I found them yesterday, hidden away..
Three letters, all postmarked from years past.
Addressed to you...at a post office box...
Letters which I want desperately to open.
But....I am afraid...I can’t..

Could I just be overly fearful, imagining?
Surely...they cannot be what I fear most?
For I loved you...loved you as no other..
And I don’t want to lose the memories.

My hand trembles as I hold them.
The paper..now brown, old...stiff..
Not paper that would have held love.
Paper of a turbulent, hurtful time..

I still love you...even though you are gone.
I remember the last moment with you.
Your eyes smiling up at me...a tear falling.
Tears fell from both our eyes that day.
I kissed away your last breath..

Would you want me to know...to open the past?
To bring hurt into a relationship eternal?
Can it only be just me, my silly insecurity?
Or...was it her?...instead of me?

I want to keep you as I knew you...
My knight in armor, my protector..
My suitor, my lover, the essence of me..
I will share this memory with her...if she exists..
Your memory I have...we have...
And I know you loved me...
would love me now..

Magnus darling boy this is Utterlu Utterly poignantly beautiful

It brought tears to my eyes, I know I'm as sentimental as they come

However the feelings brought out in this excellent piece from you show just how much talent you have

Wonderful writing as always This really is excellent and i love it. This is a keeper for certain

Love and warm stuff

Magnus - perhaps to open them, and remember what was, or perhaps not... I wouldn't know what to do either...

This is very good!  I was a little confused on the perspective of the poem though.  I loved it though!

Magnus...very poignant poem...perhaps if you held them up to the light, I want to say, but..to trust is part of love.

(big hugggssssss) So so sad, sweet friend, my heart cries out to the sorrow behind these messages! (sad sigh) I too wouldn't know what to do in this situation, but if you want to keep memories and perceptions alive the way they are, then it is best not to open them and keep them in a safe scrapbook or safe place! (big hugggssss) So very heatfelt, sweet friend, I love it! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light alwyas shine upon you!

Love,

Magnus...This poem touched me deeply. As a good poet friend of mine wrote, "What you have is never lost," No one can take away what is kept in our hearts.  ***Ivy Rose

reply to all...

IT IS LATE...

I thank each of you for your comments...

I took the woman's role...like looking at
it from her persective at times...helps the
sensitivity come out..

No,  not a good thing to find anywhere...

I may follow this up with one where she
decides what to do with the letters...

I think it is obvious that she loved him
very much...and still does..

Interesting to write from that perspective.  If a sequel is coming, I hope she throws them away without reading.  She knows all she needs to know.  There's my two-cents.  lol  Very effective write, Magnus.

Letters are special for many reasons. Not like a phone call or
a conversation. A letter is lasting, you have it forever.....
this is very moving, very "life"

Magnus...

Don't open them! Let the past stay in the past. If she wants to remember him the way he was, don't let her open them and be disappointed. If he's a knight in shining armour in her mind, let him stay that way. Wonderful, thought provoking write.

Magnus,
Does she open them and will it make a difference to her love? Sequel please, I have to know.
