Forgive me, this is quite the long poem, especially for a first time user of this forum place. hehe. I have a love for poetry and writing it, which is why I want to start placing them in here. I hope people enjoy reading my poems as much as I enjoy writing them. Of course, my poems are better written when my emotions are totally messed up. So this poem was written when I wasn't very happy. *grin* Thanks for reading. I very much appreciate it. Take care. Sorry it's so long. I had a lot to say. hehe. later.

Lonely Drive.

Speak lightly into the phone
This is your last night
You wish to say goodbye
All you hear is the dial tone
Pack up your bags
Shove your darkness back
Into the suitcase.
Move on out.
As you close the door, you
Forget that you're alone on this.
Don't wait for your mother,
Stubborn. Get out.
Run away. Get away.
Do this on your own.
Carry your baggage alone.
You want to be independent,
But you're too afraid to live without
Someone by your side.
Hold my hand, Mommy!
Daddy, don't leave me!
Shove those thoughts away.
You're alone. Driving.
Driving alongside the road
Scrape your tears. Grow up.
You are not like them.
You're different.
You are chasing your own shadow.
You're so alone.
It's dark out. You
Can crave the light, but
It won't find you
Until morning.
That is an eternity away.
Can you speak of good fortune?
Are you feeling strong?
You are weak. I'm sorry.
You can't drive alone.
You can't fight this on your own.
You can't even face yourself, huh?
What do you see when you stare
At the rearview mirror?
Nothing? Not surprising.
Don't pull over. Don't cry.
You'll get over it.
Get out there again.
Quiet the sleeping baby.
There's more road ahead.
Can you make it that long?
Don't disappoint me again.
Don't give up.
Chestnuts seem to be roasting
On someone else's fire
As you list your fears,
Beg for life of your own.
Pray for the strength
To find the road. Don't give in
To your mom.
You are on your own.
You are all alone.
The only one who can face
Yourself is you.
Don't defeat the challenge.
Drive.
Gasp for breath and
Live again!

Welcome charms...this is wonderful...and I like the metaphor of just one stage of life, when in actuality, I think we feel this, and the inbetweens of endings and beginnings in ALL aspects of our life. Wonderful journey of writing with excellent metaphor. Welcome!

Hey Charms,
Welcome to Passions. Hope you like the blue pages. This is a wonderful place.

Wow do you ever bring back memories to my head. Reminds me of leaving home at nineteen. A pretty empty feeling. You expressed yourself well. I like it.

By the way, I'm the best and hippest grandpa in this place!

That drive is scary for those moving on.  The future and change is good.  I enjoyed this drive into reality.  Excellent poem.

Charms, You started off with a winner. Excellent writing. Stirs the imagination as I can see a young women checking her rearview mirror as she drives in the darkness. Well done. Cheryl

PS You will notice I don't do specifc critiques of poems, just enjoy them. So if I don't get specific with anything in my replies, know that I am always that way
