My thoughts cascade like a waterfall
Then dry up like desert sand
I need an oasis of words after all
Not a mirage for a thirsty man

I long for the flow of words
I hunger for rhyme in verse
When did I become a beggar?
Can’t believe this writer’s curse!

Come sweet words of poetry
Weave yourself into my mind
Fill my soul and set me free
Beauty of the word I long to find

It’s all right here within my heart
Just waiting to escape
Trying to find the place to start
Wondering the form or shape

So spew forth like a natural spring
Flow from my heart to my pen
I will be like a bird that can sing
When I write poetry once again

Cheryl,
I found that the true writers block was my own head. Sure a square jaw is nice, but the rest of it looks silly. The reason you are in poetic darkness is that no other poet can hold a candle to you. Love ya.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Cheryl, It would appear your muse has awakened from a winter nap...for this is a beautiful piece of writing.  I know the feeling, oh so well, when the words just won't come.  Write on!  Hugs, Nancy.

I don't think I've ever seen a better write of this struggle.  Nice!

I know the dilemma. When I'm walking in the forest, or taking a shower or awaken from deep sleep, a poem seed pops in. So I sit on a log quickly and start writing, (I carry 3x5 cards) or run to my computer dripping wet, or roll out of bed to my computer at the side of my bed, thinking of nothing but the first line or two. Because I know if I think of anything, anything at all I will block the poem. And I never make corrections or worry about what's correct until it's down. Only then, do I go back and polish it. Never rushing, always letting the poem tell me what to do, and it usually does. If I get stuck in the middle, I just blow it away and wait for another. That's me. Words just seem to come when I'm under the spell, sometimes words I don't even remember knowing. Later when I look them up, I'm amazed. But I guess everyone receives God's gift of poetry differently.

His Poet - at times the words don't want to seem to flow, but they come eventually. Nice write about some of the frustrations of a poet...

Chris and Victoria, I didn't think it would be hard to find poets who can relate. Actually this was written a few months back but either the words just flow or they don't. I don't usually work on a poem more than thirty minutes. It either happens of it doesn't. Thanks so much for reading. Cheryl

Floria and Sunset, Thank you both for reading. I think the title of this one in itself is enough to intrigue any poet to take a peek. I'm happy you both did. Cheryl

Newell and Noelle, Gosh your names sound delightful together. Thanks for reading and relating to this common dilemma. Newell, your approach is much more complex than mine, although I have often jotted down bits and pieces as I drive home. I need a recorder to dictate into when the words come. Thanks again for reading. Cheryl

Dave, if you had seen me just staring at the walls or into space you would know I'm not lying. When the words finally start to flow, I just go with the flow. Thanks friend.

Bill, Thank you too for reading this one. I appreciate your reply.

Cheryl, you have absolutely the most productive case of writers block I have ever seen.  Like Newell, I always write it down as soon as it comes to me.  I keep a little notebook with me at all times...except in the shower because no one has invented a waterproof one yet.  But my poems go through several revisions before they are even posted anywhere for the first time...and sometimes the way they end up, is totally unrecognizeable from the way they started out.
Excellent writing here!
