The King sat quietly upon his throne,
While through the window, the twilight shone
Alone in the castle, save the flickering torch
Untended for days, it's flame near gone.

His mace still in hand and with furrowed brow
Neither friend, nor foe to confront him now
Silence within, save his weak, raspy breath
His armour stained deep with colours of death.

His kingdom in ruins, rubble and mud
Nothing to show for the honour and blood
Spilled on the land, while crying his name
There sat but a man, alone with his shame.

In a darkened room, upon bended knee
He cried for the Gods to let him see
A path to choose for a life now lost
A ray of sun, for a soul of frost.

Motionless, as sun did set
He waited for his answer yet
Then Gods did speak upon the breeze
To the broken man, upon his knees.

Whispered through the evening chill,
"Be strong, my son, there is hope still.
One man's kingdom can be true,
By allowing love to govern you".

The man knelt quietly beside the throne,
While through the window, sunlight shone.
Alone in a castle, save the flickering torch
Warmed again by day's new dawn.

Trew,
But what a price to pay. Nice write. By the way, don't believe we've met. Welcome to Passions.

This is nice storytelling trew--a song of troubadour, if you will...I too know of the sadness of Kings.

and pray tell, O Lord, dare I ask?

In your pic? That blue thing? Is that a fish kissing you? methinks I am seeing things!

Larry C ~ Thanks for the reply.  I haven't been around for quite a while and you're right, we haven't met.  The pleasure's mine!
Thanks again.

serenity ~ No, it's not a fish! LOL!  It's a balloon.  But now that you mention it...

Thank you for your compliments.  I was in the mood for a story.  Glad you enjoyed it!

All dawns should see this delight
a King from what was once a knight
deliver more, good poet, do
a poet's favorite we find in you...
