A Wintry Tune

'Twas the night before the dawn
When sweet darkness  covered me,
Quiet filled the star lit sky
And everywhere I see,
Golden lights aglow
From houses warmed by fire
And children dancing to and fro
All dressed in sleep attire.

Then smoke from chimneys swirl
As the cold night air chills,
I watch the smoke just twirl and twirl
Across the snowy hills,
Then music fills the air
From chapel down the road
As people dressed in muffs and furs
In horse drawn carriage rode.

The crystalline iced snow
Sparkles under the reflecting moon,
And every crunchy step you take
Forms a wintry tune
My soul is filled with joy
Yet with a heavy heart
My story's coming to an end
Soon winter must depart
And once again the summer days
Will slowly melt my heart.

You paint a lovely picture with your words, well done. Chris

A very pretty song, Floria. Here in Florida we don't see much Winter. In Silver Springs we may get a few days of freeze but rarely snow. Thanks for reminding me how beautful a wintry night can be.

Our winter precipitation is usually rain or sleet... nothing that would paint this delightful a picture. *S* I like this very much, strbbux... thanks for sharing winter at its most beautiful. *S*

Another gorgeous season poem, Floria...
I, too love the nasty weather for some reason which I have never been able to fathom.
It seems to be a poet thing.  I think that rainy and snowy days have a lot more soul than the sunny warm ones....which, of course, have their own kind of beauty if you like beautiful sunny days.
Thanks for sharing.
