(This poem is about the violence up in northern Ireland. This has made me feel very sad for years and my heart cries out to all these poor people being attacked. Much of my family heritage comes from Ireland and I just had to write my feelings out. Sorry for the downer. :-(

Don’t Drink From The Well
By: Noah Eaton
1/7/02 (Revised)

Move on over, there’s only room for me
Come now, come now, can you not see?
Reveal yourself, there’s no reason to hide
Open your eyes, fool, you are blind

Now you step foot and lay your feet down
And as you cry, I will spread my wings out

Dear one, dear one, stay inside your home
Your boat is off to sea, there is nowhere to go
Cohere, come here, I’ll keep you company
What were you expecting, where were you looking?

Now I see you shout as you look around
And as you cry, I will spread my wings out

What's this you say?
That you are the predominant force of this place?
Why can't we live in peace?

What's this you say?
That you have need to banish and turn away?
Why can't we let this slip away?

I walk on these waters of lost souls
Murdered before these hands of greed

So I dance with these shadows of the shamans
And under the full moon I will cry…
Because you’re all bleeding now
You’re all bleeding now
You’re all screaming…
And through the fire eyes are staring
They feel so righteous...
So righteous...
How can we prove it wrong?
You're all screaming...

So I carry on with my tears
And I carry on with my pity
And I live on with my anger
I don’t show any mercy
And I feel all this rage
I’m crying on my hands and knees
And I hear our fathers collapsing
I hear these poor children screaming

Don’t drink from the well
There’s poison in the well
There's blood in the well
Stay close to your families

Don't drink from the well...

Wow...very nicely penned.  Reminded me much of the Dave Matthews Band song "Don't Drink the Water".  Check it out here...I think you'll like!

Noah-

I have a strong connection to Northern Ireland as well, with family and friends that have been directly involved in one way or another (for example -- my one friend was shot in the arm while running from a pub on the wrong side in Belfast).  I particularly liked the image of the righteous eyes staring through the fire.  Too tough of a subject for me to deal with with all the emotions it brings -- kudos for taking it on in the first place.

Noah darling boy this is so well written, as you know I'm English and the troubles of Northern Ireland are certainly something everyone in England knows about. It is our brothers sons, lovers, cousins, uncles. who have gone there as the peace keeping force. Everytime a bomb goes off and people are murdered and maimed it is on our streets that it happens. Do we know what the effect of Northern Ireland is? YES we do.

Your writing has touched me deeply darling boy, I feel that you too can comprehend the waste of lives. I feel that you undestand the shudders that rack my soul everytime I hear of another attack by the IRA or the whatever's. I think because we are so aware of terrorism, because we understand how it is necessary never to give in to the politics of fear, because each and everyone of us who live in the UK truly comprehends the effects of war and hatred. I think because of that bloody and tortured heritage we all have here we understood without having to have it explained in minute detail, this is the reason we stand beside you now. And have done ever since that terrible day back in September

I don't mean to bang on, it is something I feel deeply about. Long may freedom ring. Freedom to choose who you have to represent you in Parliament / Congress, freedom to say what you will, as long as that doesn't harm others, and freedom to worship whoever you wish.

So very sad Noah, that in this world we live in, many people take joy in murdering others.  It is a sad world because of this.  We need to learn how to make peace and to keep it.  Touching post Noah, and great as always.

Noah, I have just been reading some books about Ireland. I wish so much that peace would reign in he world. This lovely and special place deserves an end to their travails.

Beautifully written, Noah.....about a very sad, sensitive and tragic subject. I think this concerns everyone in the whole world.

Noah- You certainly captured the feelings of the people of Ireland when those senseless acts of violence are performed there.  I think since September 11th, the IRA has put down its arms, at least for now.  Hopefully, both sides are able to keep the peace.  Nice writing.

It is frightening to have to write such a poem Noah.  I know how it must have hurt so much as you penned the words.  Why do so many loved ones have to be hurt or killed.  I hope and pray to God for an answer.  You did a commendable job with this oh so difficult task.  Roger

Noah,

This poem is so sad. It's haunting... I wish it was something that didn't have to be written.  Hoepfully one day there will be peace. Hugs to you.

there’s only room for me

How many wars are waged, how much blood is shed, how many politicians pontificate when that one simple statement is the real reason for the first rock/arrow/bullet/cruel word being thrown?

Very thought-provoking write... I enjoyed!
