I read the note that said you were gone
and in that moment, died the remains of the song
A song which we danced, to the tune of our hearts
the smiles we gave, pierced through with love’s darts

My thoughts did turn to the sun in your hair
the flash of the eyes, as you said you care
A touch on your cheek slid like silk so fine
a portrait of beauty drawn with artist line

With a sigh, I read we could be friends
if in the future, we could make amends
Slowly I put the note away
knowing there could be nothing left to say

Time went by, with an aching heart
until one day, I realized with a start
The face was blurred when brought to mind
for time has a way of becoming kind

So the note became dry and crumbled to dust
I stopped hanging on, as I knew I must
For out in the world would be someone new
and life only gives to the ones that pursue

It is wonderful how the old adages have great truth in them; is it not?  Time does, indeed, heal wounds..

I liked the way I felt the anguish and then ... as distanced by time, the return of hope ...

Good one, a keeper

Interesting, as Spancil Hill played in the background, to click on this, and although you borrowed not one word from that, these words fit the music perfectly.

Bravo!

Within us all is a piece of every person we know.
'Tis kept safely tucked away, cherished.
Such longing to bring them back,
such love at what they left us with.
Time does heal the pain, thank goodness.
Well done dear Logan....
soft smile and a gentle hug, Nancy.

I love the way you have written this. Both the message, and the words and rhythm you have used to convey those thoughts.

and life only gives to the ones that pursue

That line is so very, very true. Too many people expect life to come to them, but the ones who truly get all out of life, are those who pursue what they want

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Sad, but sweetly written as always with a gentle hand. And the face may blur, but the soul remains memorable throughout time. smiles to you, gentle poet.

Sometimes the pain leaves us not wanting to try again for fear of being hurt again....to pursue love one has to be able to trust.
Your poem speaks of your healing and has ended on a very positive note for you..Very well written with a great message for us all. **big hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.
