My wife is having an affair.
The evidence is everywhere.
Her face is rosy with delight.
A smile upturns her lips at night.

A special twinkle in her eye
I spot, as she goes passing by.
Her thoughts, a million miles away,
She barely hears a word I say.

Though I am crushed, I cannot claim
To not know wherein lies the blame.
There was a time, long years ago,
That I was quite the Romeo.

I brought her flowers every day.
I smiled at what she had to say.
I always tried to make her see
The happy man she let me be.

I made her laugh with silly quips
And took her on romantic trips
That made her squeal with delight.
I held her to me every night.

But, as the years passed frantically,
Romance came not so easily.
The mounting pressures of my life -
The work, the bills - no time for wife.

Bouquets delivered less and less
As did the times of tenderness;
My smile appeared less frequently
And changed the man that once was me.

Now I can see, she has another
Man to be a better lover.
Though I still play a vital part,
He is the one inside her heart.

She loves another man, and yet,
I sadly feel no regret.
Her other lover is, you see,
The husband that I used to be.

'Deer dear heart This is one of my new favourites, how true this is. I can see so many people nodding their heads to this.

How often do we take for granted what we have and let it slip away? Well, this should be pinned to a lot of cork boards.

Absolutely excellent writing as always but something more, it's that knowledge that this is real that lifts this into the masterclass.

You do know I love this don't you? I thought I might have dropped a hint of two

(tears fall down my cheeks) Never blame yourself, sweet friend, you always do all you can to be the most loving lover you can be, and you do all you can to support her and your family always. (sad sigh) I know how you feel, but you are truly a wonderful friend and person and we would all be ever so lucky to love just like you do as your loving words say! (big hugggssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is so sad but beautiful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

'deer...Me thinks that I know the moral
to this story well...No, she doesn't have
a lover (I think?)...kidding...but I know
I have done that before...That is one area
of my life that I am working harder at now.

You penned this extremely well...could not
have said it better...

Thanx..

Oh, I know this is a serious issue, but I am so worried
about poor Noah, the boy is going to be worried about you

I'm sure you can get back in the competition.. just read her this poem!!!

To say I loved it seems not quite enough.. but it will have to do as I silently stand and applaud the wisdom of your heart.

Most impressive.. as always...

Deer,
Have I heard these words before? they ring just as true now  as they did in my imagination,... or perhaps yours.

Oh, I do love it when you weave such wonderful messages into your poetry Michael. Beautiful closing lines to compliment the rhythmic and flowing lines throughout this tender and thought-filled piece. An excellent write my friend, it made me stop and ponder.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

'Deer - Great words of wisdom here, in that they tell us all something we already know, but don't think about.  You are right, as usual.

You had me worried there for a minute..til I got to the last line!! Another compelling story told, as only you can ‘Deer. Whether this is true in your life or not, it is amazing how a stale love can become fresh again when we go back to doing the things we did when it was exciting and new.

You think that "he's" the only one,
but a shock I have for you
Cuz she's also see'in me
And ya didn't have a clue

She cut ya down to "once a month"
I know you're all "a-tether"
But you shouldn't feel so bad
Your friends she's cut off all together!
