In Thought Alone

They had met
In a most pleasant way
For they both enjoyed
A literary sway

He liked her words,
And she liked his
Both were calm types
With an underlying fizz

If she wrote sentimental
He’d reply in kind
Seemingly it was to them
A pairing of like minds

One day she ventured,
Do you like to dance?
He responded with a smile, saying
Just give me my first chance

They made a date
For a time in their tomorrows
Neither knew then
Against fate they had borrowed

Then days stepped in
Became years, and more
Still they corresponded
By phone, mail and more…

Good friends established
Hearts in sync to find
A relationship had deepened
A pairing of like minds

Came the day for meeting
Perhaps, to spark romance?
She queried, he responded,
It was time to have that dance

They nervously talked a bit,
Then a date set, a meeting place
He arrived, waiting impatiently
The first time in years, to be face to face

He said he’d wear a carnation
Red in color, like his declare
She would come all in white
He’d see her at the top of the stairs

He arrived to wait, nervously paced
And still, no show of white
Then he began to worry, as
The clock ticked away the night

Soon a man came to him
Bearing a letter with his name
Still no lady, no show of white
And his heart began to pain

He tore into the missive
As quickly, his soul took flight
For the letter explained
Why no lady in white

“Dear sir, thank you for your time
For you gave my mother desire,
Her cancer had ravaged her soul
You kept away the pain of fire,

She never spoke to you of this
She would never cause you pain,
She was sure she would have made
The trip, just to say your name,

But the cancer took her yester ‘eve,
In her papers I found this date,
I just want you to know, for you,
She would have danced the night away

She whispered to me her promise
To meet you at the top of the stairs
If you look very closely sir,
You may see her in the air.”

The gentle man, through his tears,
Looked upward to a sight,
And there, a soul, a vision,
Dressed in ethereal white

Looked down on him, on his pain
A longing in her soul was there,
Then she vanished simply,
He felt lost in the night’s air

One would think it to be true,
To not wait until a tomorrow
For when asked to dance, don’t
Think you’ve a day to borrow…

Now THIS is the kind of poetry I enjoy reading most of all!  A story with an ending and a moral.  Well done, Ms Noir!  Such a sad tale it is, too.  Great imagination here.

AH, Now this one made my eyes do more than mist. What a perfectly written story, and amazingly vivid imagery. I'll put this into my favorites folder. And now the carpe diem thoughts prevail.

This is a treasure. Thank you for this.

My perception of truth will somehow never quite be the same..and so I write.

now we shall dance love
heaven shall be our dance floor
heaven in my arms

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Oh my gosh...through tears I read this poem and let it seep into my soul.......how often do we lose the chance by putting of the the chance to dance. This poem is total perfection and stunning in its heartfelt message. I love it and it goes into my library. Thank you......I hope I have learned not to put off the dance. **big hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Sooooooooo heartbreaking, sweet friend, such a powerful morale fills this poem, that we should all accept the invitation when it comes around, for that invitation may eventually reach its deadline, and we must have the courage to take the dance every chance we get. (sad sigh) So sad but beautiful, sweet friend, God Bless You, this is a true classic! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Soleil, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Soleil Noir this is wonderful truly it is excellent writing.

My sweet sister of heart Kari sent me this yesterday, but yesterday was not a good day to send me sad poems. It's a long story but very boring to anyone who doesn't really know me
I've read this today when I'm in a better state to deal with tears. Utterly magnificent

You are quite the storyteller well done

Love and warm stuff
As always

My favorite song is by Lee ann Womack, and used her line as my signature in Passions for months, "If you get the chance to sit it out or dance, just dance", so you know I loved this too.  Life sometimes is far too short to not dance.  Darn it, kleenix alert.  That my dear lady was one fine story.
