Lying on the table
Voices in my ear
I heard a doctor saying
Words I should not hear

Whoops there goes my watch
I heard the soft voice say
Did you attend the party?
I drank too much today

What is that thing spurting
Should we cut it off?
Can you please remove my mask?
Thanks! I have to cough.

Hey she needed that!
Why did you take it out
We'll say that it went septic
That should stop her pout.

My I'm feeling dizzy
And a little sick
Maybe we could close early
Would that do the trick

The voices murmured round me
They faded out and in
Discussions of their holiday
Made me want to grin

Until a distant talking
Made me stop and think
Let's finish now! we are done
I need another drink

I heard all these scary things
As comatose I lay
But the scariest part of all
Is the bill I'd live to pay.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

I've been in this situation!  And besides that, it's cold in that operating room!!!!!!!!

My perception of truth will somehow never quite be the same..and so I write.

Now that I've been to my selection of quack doctors, and can say so confidently since I was once a medstudent...this sums up how I feel when I walk into a doctor's office..I start to hear little voices about what they don't know!!Nicely done

Hi Keth, Humorous approach to a sometimes not so funny dilemma. That new twilight medication causes you to hear lots of things but you're never quite able to reply. Happy New Year. Cheryl

Keth darling sister of my soul I really love this poem it is UTTERLY utterly fabulous. You know that this really does happen, the tales I could tell you. There was one nurse who had a really bad cold and doing the right thing moved away from the patient. But then removed her mask and sneezed all over the anaethetist. Talk about fallout. Luckily there wasn't any nasty consequences but there could have been.
I shan't add the story about the nurse who was discussing a new man friend who turned out to be the patients partner. The fallout from that little scenario wasn't at all pleasant.

Love and warm stuff
As always

LOL Keth.....Its very scary to be unconscious.....You never know what they are going to remove.....or even worse, what they are going to leave inside.  There have been some very unfunny things left inside people during surgery.  Things such as latex gloves, metal surgical instruments etc.
A great topic for a poem.....and as usual,
Very well presented.
I hope it wasn't taken from a real life experience.

Great write and incredibly original.  Never would have thought about doctors in a poetic sense...it's an oxymoron thing!!  Ya pulled it off!

Keth - Hey, writing poetry sure doesn't pay those large doctor bills, but a good malpractice suit does.lol  Thanks for the laugh.  I wish I could write an amusing piece, but nothing ever comes to me when I try.  Nice write.
