The holidays are over and the kids are back in school.
There hasn't been much snow although the weather's rather cool.
My job is still the same old grind - the Chevy still eats gas
And I still miss you more than life as I watch hours pass.

Italian for the kids tonight....they LOVE Spaghetti-O's!
I worked a few hours overtime to buy the boys some clothes.
Poor Mikey has a touch of flu. His skin's a little pale.
I'll take him to Doc Adam's when I get done with the mail....

I laid awake on New Year's Eve, the letters 'neath my bed,
While thoughts of you, and our dear boys were racing through my head;
Oh HOW could I have been so foolish? DARN my stupid pride!
I grabbed the box of letters, read them all again, and cried.

I sealed each one with tears of love, I counted forty-four,
I gathered them together, and with purpose, found the door.
I raced toward the mailbox, tossed in each and every one,
Then cried as I walked home alone . my wait had just begun.

I walked out to the mailbox - not one of Life's big thrills
Expecting ads and circulars along with monthly bills
But, when I opened up the box, I felt that I had died!
There were so many letters they had barely fit inside!!

I read the letters, one by one, through tears that freely flowed.
I followed turns your life had taken....every episode.
I read that you still loved me and the children, most of all
And, on the final page, there was a number I could call....

I waited by the phone, anticipation drove me mad!
I reminisced on all I'd lost, on all I'd truly had.
A day went by, and then another; Curse that blasted mail!
I thought that they delivered through the rain, the sleet, the hail!

I paced the floor for hours, wore a hole into my rug,
I wrung my hands in nervous wait, where nails had sharply dug;
But just as I had given up - assumed he didn't care .
My telephone began to toll . a ringing filled the air .

I dialed the number carefully and then I heard it ring.
I did the best I could to keep my hand from trembling.
It rang one time, then two, then three ... my hopes were getting low
And just when I had given up, I heard her say "Hello".

Her voice began to fill my ear as she apologized
With words of all the love for us she hadn't realized.
I felt the torment in her voice - the sadness in her tone
And, when she stopped, all I could say was, "Honey, please come home".

The moment that I heard his voice, my words began to pour,
I didn't waste a breath, for fear I'd lose him evermore;
I paused, and there was nothing . dreadful silence on the phone .
Until I heard his tender voice, say "Honey, please come home."

I dropped the handset, ran about, I grabbed my coat and purse,
Was half-way out the door, then stopped! I made a quick reverse .
I grabbed the phone from where it fell, and shouted ... "Sorry dear!"
"I'm on my way!", then dropped the phone again, and gave a cheer!

I sat, tears streaming down my face, because I felt so glad.
The boys came in and saw me, then said, "Why you crying, Dad?"
"Because your mama's coming home so that's why, I suppose..."
Then Mikey jumped and screamed with glee, "No more Spaghetti-O's!!"

The boys are sitting, all combed, dressed up in their Sunday best
And I'm aglow with knowledge that our love has passed the test.
The bell will ring not long from now and it will be my wife
Together we'll go forward and begin a brand new life.........

You know, it takes a lot to bring a lump to this old broads throat...but good lord, you two have done it here. This is absolutely marvelous...you had me mesmerized to every line. This is such a sweet, tender ending, told as only you two story tellers could. Bravo...standing ovation!!!

'Deer dearest heart, this is without doubt one of your utter best. And now you’ve made me cry. What is this a conspiracy? I so much less attractive with red rimmed eyes? Hhhmm! But my eyes do look like a field of bluebells that have been washed by the summer rain They don’t but I’m surely allowed some poetic licence. Aren't I?

This is absolutely wonderful, I forgive you for making me cry, since these were tears of joy and relief that the star crossed lovers would be star crossed no more.

YES!!  YES!!  I LOVE IT!!  This is a masterpiece!  I knew there had to be a happily ever after here!!  I just knew it!! You two should be very very proud of this, as I believe it was impromtu blending of pens and thoughts.  Reminded me much of the stage play 'Love Letters.'
I so enjoyed this....please keep us in touch with this 'family' from time to time.

A happy ending...I can relax now.  This has been the most enjoyable series...even more so given it's impromptu evolution.  Thanks to both of you...and LohnJohn, for switching those letters!

Mistletoe Angel, Tracey, Sunshine, RosePetal, Marsha, SmartChick, Enchantress, Duncan, Irish Rose, Larry, Martie, and Dee ….

A thank you does not seem nearly enough for your wonderful enthusiasm and warmth for this series of poems, but thank you I will … from the bottom of this heart. Your comments have been such a joy to read throughout, and you are all so very much appreciated!

Michael … thank you again, for giving me the pleasure of following in your footsteps, and writing these with you. From the first moment I read Dear Honey, you had me entranced, and I couldn't resist joining in your thoughts. Thank you for continuing the saga to such a delightful end. You are a wonderful friend whom I admire so very much … thank you for these marvelously poetic ping-pong days!

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

Kit AND Deer,
I love a happy ending just like you've painted here
and no more spaghetti-O's that would bring good cheer
a poetic melding from Kit and Balladeer
thank you both, you do it well, I'm standing up to cheer.

Encore!
