Embrace the Day

by Michael

Sometimes we all have knelt in pain,
our lives in tatters, soiled and torn
and thought we’d lose our sanity,
so broken we and so forlorn.

I know I have such memories.
I know like me, you also do.
So empty did we feel that day,
just broken pieces and no glue.

But if we had the glue, it seems,
why piece them back and then go on,
when all that’s left are broken dreams
and the journey to make alone?

We piece them back because we must,
to find new hope in days unborn.
Though hurt, we have to learn to trust
and bury days that now we mourn.

It’s hurt and yet our heart will strive.
It hungers for such tenderness.
It’s wounded, but it will survive
and longs again to know a kiss.

And kissed it will be, if you choose.
Embrace the day and you’ll be free.
Let others see how young, your heart,
wherein there still lies purity.

One life we have, but many days
and many years, a chance to take,
to shape it into perfection
with the decisions that we make.

You’ll make mistakes, but don’t lose hope.
Each day renews our spirit so.
Your heart will once again be kissed
and once again, will love you know.

Its great to see you back here, Michael...especially after you said that you had posted your last poem here.
I am relieved that you changed your mind and happy to see you here again....with a wonderful piece of work, also.

Nicely done, Michael.  I can tell there is a heart in you the burns brightly.  I do enjoy poems that are philosophical in their own way, such as this one.

Yes, piece them back we do and we must.  I also enjoy poems that dig deep and make me think and I for one, am glad you are still posting.  I find that having some feedback spurs a person to continue to write, although I'm sure many would write regardless, but having that feedback just does something and I mean feedback, not just a smiley!

Such words of wisdom, penned with great tenderness. Yes, it is true that we have all knelt in despair, but it is the getting back up that makes us better people. And, it is in the mistakes we make that we learn more about ourselves and others. Great poem Michael, I enjoyed very much

Sorry Michael...perhaps it was not a repost but rather a request.  Regardless of which, it is extremely well done!

Wise words, Auguste. Better to have loved and lost; then to have not loved at all.  We must give our hearts wings and teach them to fly. I LOVED THIS POEM.  ***Ivy Rose
