Remember the resolutions you have keenly made,
for a change of habit or the calling of a new trade;
were you thinking that dropping the old would be no fuss
is it like waiting for public transport when there is no bus?

The conductor on the bus asks you for your correct fare,
you say you have it, to admit the truth you would not dare,
must of us are opposed to changes of old tactics
be they changes of diet or dropping a smoking habit.

so we are back to another agonizing stretch of time
as you sit at tables and there is fine food on which to dine,
you will remember the false promises that you failed
to keep
and forget the needy lots of kids who go to bed and weep.

For as resolutions go, resignation and donation
go hand in hand,
and if you don't have to eat, it stands another man can;
but spoiled lots we are with diets of the mind where we don't succeed
and starving lots of children beacon our attention and heed.

Well ecrivan I started laughing and ended crying. I was ready to tell you yes, mine would be diet, oh my, I must do that.. then I read about the children, you are so right, and many people ignore the issue, and if everyone did a little, it would be a lot. thanks for this, floria

*sigh* another message with power and purpose written skillfully into your words. I do not make an resolutions but to be the best person that I can and help others as best I can. It tears my heart apart to see the pain and suffering in this world and I wish I could do more. Strbbux is right...if we each do a little it could mean a lot. Very thought provoking piece. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

nice message-- maybe someone will start an organization that profits from broken resolutions and use the money to help the less fortunate.

There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar.

it does twist nicely to an unexpected close,
I think could have just made a homuouous puch on the dieting..well lets all give a little then we'll get back a whole lot more.

Jamie,

I like the idea of collecting a dollar a piece for every broken resolution and sending it out to one of the more established organizations that has a good record of giving for development

Martin - Definitely a very meaningful message in this one, but did you have to make me feel guilty on only the second day of the New Year?lol  Very good.

I agree with Dave, Martin...you played right into my guilt with this beautifully portrayed sentiment, which is so very well written.
Today is only day 2.....and I have broken just about all of my resolutions already...
But they were just vanity resolutions and very selfish ones, at that.
I would love to get a website-wide consensus to resolve that we all do our part for world peace and the defeat of terrorism.
And while we are at it....how about the capture of bin ladin.

Martin darling boy I only made one resolution and that was no more tears, well you and dave and a whole load more have kicked that into touch.

This is as always fabulous writing on your part, I do give, I make a regular donation to a variety of causes, but it's still never enough. I believe that if each of us will give love then yes each of us will get back far more. And that love has to be practical, we need to spread the message of hope, and love.

Yes Lyra is right we need to find and stamp out evil, aka Bin Laden

Love and warm stuff

Marsha,

being a struggling artist, I can always use lots of that love, Marsha. The key is being happy with less and not always wanting more. Thanks for all your mushy stuff

Dave, Madame Chip,

no guilt trips were intended, I am being resolute at making no resolutions, sour as it may sound, at least I know I'm not building a high for myself and it won't follow through. Bin Laden is a terrorist of number one caliber, like Bush says it will take time, by the same token they could have gotten rid of him years ago and didn't.So we're all paying the price about feeling discomfort now when we travel.
