A New Year Came

A new year laced the edge of night
With promises of newer light
And hope of days and weeks to come
Were spoken by the rising sun

A new year tiptoed in at dawn
Across the fields and winter lawn
It slowly lit the crimson sky
Whose splendor softly touched my eye

A new year crept along the ledge
Of mountain’s peak and hemlock hedge
The sun in silence slowly tread
At shadow’s pace across my bed

A new year came like flowering rose
And warmed the place of my repose
It traced the fringes of my soul
In silhouettes adorned in gold

I saw myself with newer dreams
And bathed afresh in mountain streams
The path before me straight and wide
My heart, fulfilled with joy inside

A new year crept into my life
And cleansed my mind of pain and strife
I saw the present wrapped in beams
On mountains edged with sunlit dreams

A new year touched my waking eye
And lit my life with crimson sky

There IS a clean feeling with the beginning of a New Year...I didn't think 2001 really had time to feel old and worn, but the calendar says it is, so like lemming to the sea, I followed in to see what 2002 promises.

With writing like this, it promises a multitude of good tidings...

thank you, Lady Santos!

This IS beautifully written. I especially love poetry that seems to flow off the tongue when read aloud... and you've chosen wonderful, hopeful words here.
Thanks, too, for reminding me that NEW YEAR means "New Beginnings".

..and a new year to enjoy your wonderful poems ... really good Liz--
