Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-12-31 10:29 PM

Winter’s Song

Come, Jack, etch my glass
Frost my windowpane,
Sift for me a powdered lass,
Sing winter’s song again

Temper me with your will
Drive me from my soul
Bind me swift with your chill
Set your winter’s goal

For harsh summer’s heat so long
I begged for your sweet cool
Now you are where you belong
And I, a summer’s fool

Nevertheless, Cardinal sings
Holding fast to ice’nd limb
No, no, he shall not give wing
Shall I brave you yet as him?

Hoarfrost dresses all in white
And glitters crystalline
Pond creeks yet at night
As Death is stalking sin

Do you not hang the sickle?
Of crystal promise to pond ~
Do you think my heart so fickle?
That before summer I am gone?

No, no, I shall await
The robin and his spring
And I shall hear once again
The sweet in all bird’s sing

For you think, I am weak
And will vanish in the wind ~ yet
You know not that I am one
With Kansa and its kin

Oh brother it looks like it is cold there and you certainly gave me the chills with this beautifully done poem and the picture tops off your wonderfully chilling words.  We are all in love with "home" no matter where or what it is, thank you for this one.

Kari darling sister of my soul,
What can I say except this is utterly wonderful, the ice and snow you've conjured up, and written so magnificently with your pen. I am truly shivering here. Truly outstandingly good darling girl.

Bravo Karilea ... bravo!

Wonderfully descriptive, and a delightful flow throughout ... Jack Frost has met his match in this magical weave. Wonderful, wonderful!

Best wishes and a Happy New Year to you!

Your are truely a wonderful writer. The picture looks like where I live. In cold northern Washington.  I long to go back to Calfornia and craziness and hot summers, short winters of rain. Hard winters take a strentgh I do not have inside.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh would I love to see Winter at your place, must be real beautiful.
Where I live it's always about 5 degrees higher then in the rest of this country, so when everyone else has snow, we have the wet mud

Love your poem
Forgot to mention: beautiful pic tooooo
