It is rare that I take pen in hand to document something that reflects my "real life". Tonight, I need to ask your indulgence in this selfish act. To my baby sister, Susan. Heed my words, darlin'. This one comes from my heart, to you. xoxoxoxo Sandi

No Suicide For Susan

Take my hand, my baby sister.
Catch hold of me, I can be strong.
Take my hand, my baby sister.
Through night of pain and day so long.

Think not of death, my little sister
We share a past and future, willing.
Think not of roads that end tomorrow,
There lives no future after the killing.

I am here, Susan dearest.
I know your secrets; I know your fears.
I am here, please Susan listen.
I owe you for debts, in arrears.

So hold to me, I can carry you.
Don’t let appearance shroud the facts,
There lies no road that will deter me,
This play has not seen her last act.

Together we will ride into tomorrow,
If only my hand, you would take.
Catch hold of me, Susan dearest.
Don’t' let your spirit break.
I love you.

If your title is true...
then this wish
is for you
and your sister
hold her close
and then...kiss her...

Seldom do I reply with more than a "thank you", for after 4 decades of writing, and over 50 pieces making their way into into print, I still feel so inadequit. But, this evening I learned of a very wonderful person who tried to meet death head on. I love her so.
Susan and I are dreamers. She. the artist, and I, the poet. We both saw the end of our marriages come but a week apart. Mine ended after 14 years, 10 months, and 10 days of abuse. Susan's lasted but 4 years. I wonder what horrible tortures occurred that could make her give up hope. I saw bruises, and yet held onto the hope that tomorrow would be pain free. My mind and heart are at a complete loss. I ache in a pain that is perfect in it's totality for my little sister. Forgive my ramblings, as my clock has struck midnight, and my sister is alive still, in this the year 2002.
Thank you for listening. And if there is but one of you out there that sees the world as Susan did....I am here....I will hold you, too. Just don't go away....please, don't go away.

had I had a sister like you, while I was going through the most horrible torture a woman/girl could endure, perhaps I wouldn't have tried to end it myself.  Thank God I am still here.

God bless you

seraphin, this is a truely human write. I applaud you in this to your sister. I hope she truely understands this gift of life and to challenge it no matter what the obstacles. Your last reply was amazing too. Your love shows deep.

Please don't cry, I guess this got to me for many reasons, particularily because my middle name is Susan.....my heart is there with you, even though I don't know you,  you are not alone.

This is a very heart felt poem. Your sister is so lucky to have a sister like you. I pray that she will listen to you and know how much you love and care about her.
