El Capitan is running late,
Got stuck behind a westbound freight,
Up ahead a small boy waits,
In shadow of, wood crossing gates.

Hot Kansas sun is beating down,
Ten long miles from nearest town,
No smile, no frown, a bead of sweat,
Rolls down his face, a statuette.

Thirty miles from Wichita,
No sound, but for, a lone crow's caw,
Nowhere 'mid a treeless plain,
A young boy waits for silver train.

His stare intent upon the rails,
El Capitan, it never fails,
He stands alone in silent wait,
El Capitan is running late,

This is great, Tim! Pure Americana! I love the sound of trains, something so soothing about them. I live along the Northeast Corridor and hear them all the time. How lucky am I?!

Ma Capitan,
Late or not... I salute you
Kethry

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
