Tokens of love

I’ve burned all the letters in moments of haste
And now I am saddened by such willing waste
I tore up your pictures and now I regret
Not seeing the face that my heart can’t forget

I wish that the most foolish acts of the young
Could be spun into sonnets and tenderly sung
For I know in the dreams that I’m most fondest of
I’ve somehow destroyed every token of love

I’ve given so freely the necklace you gave
Not one birthday rose pressed in pages was saved
But tears fill my heart when my memories are turned
To all of the letters of love that were burned

I was trying to salvage the strings of my heart
Destroying the memories that tokens impart
The treasures that once caused me sorrow and pain
Souvenirs of a love I would cherish again

An intimate letter’s like coo of a dove
A soft tender sonnet, a token of love

Elizabeth:  Your work is beautiful.  The tokens of love may be gone, but the memories are forever in the heart.  You are truly a gifted writer.

What a pretty one this was!  Psst...I kept tokens and hid them from each man I was ever around LOL, makes for a fun evening to go through them!  Loved this sonnet, and this WAS a true Santos Sonnet.

A very, very poignant write, how quickly we act in haste, how slow we are to repent...how we never forgive ourselves and know that we can go on...

a good write, Lady Santos.  You read people very well indeed...

Just the other day I ripped up a love letter.  I don't feel the regret know; the pain is still so real.

After reading this I wonder....  do you have any tape?

LizzieLady~
You reminded me of 'why' I've never, ever thrown out a 'token'~
Thank you for the beauty of this tenderly written piece~
