The old year's on its way out now.
The new one's at the door.
What has been done is history...
The future lies before.
No matter where our paths may lead
One thing I know as true...
Whatever comes, we'll write it down
'Cause that's what poets do.

We may have tragedies befall
We may have joys bestowed.
We'll use our love of writing as
A way to ease our load.
We'll share our joy with others and
Our pain and sadness, too.
We'll spread our lives on printed page
'Cause that's what poets do.

Perhaps we'll gain some comfort from
The sharing of our grief.
Perhaps our words of laughter will
Bring others some relief.
Our writings will allow us to
Exchange our points of view
And learn from one another's ways
'Cause that's what poets do.

So greet the new year with a smile
An opportunity
To write a host of brand new verse
Into your diary.
Together we will march into
This year 2002
And write our hearts for all to see
'Cause that's what poets do.

Sad but true...in the lousiest situation, I think, 'It'll make a good story, someday'.
Cheers to you, Balladeer...and a new year.

I for one, am greeting the new year with a smile. A new beginning for me..back in my old skin.

We'll spread our lives on printed page
'Cause that's what poets do.

How true. And may we all continue to do that, next year, and for all the coming years.
I wish you much joy for the new year Michael.

You've captured the essence of why I love it here Michael ... regardless of joy, or tragedy ... the sharing of poetic hearts is both a gift, and a joy to partake in each day. Many hugs to you for this rhythmic and inspirational piece .... Happy New Year sweet poet!

Best wishes,

The rhyming and cadence were "right on." The story line - quite interesting. I enjoyed reading this.

Some say it often
Some say it bold
Some say it soften
Some say it cold

But none other says it like you
So keep writing like you do

Thanks for the bright outlook for the coming year.

Ah yes, it is what we do isn't it?  May everyone's hearts remain open through the next year, and our emotions flow onto paper beautifully!  Great 10,000th post Balladeer, I am proud of you!

My dear Balladeer
You do spread a lot of cheer
With thoughts always crystal clear
And with pics just apt here

I wish you a wonderful year
And hope you bring a lot of souvenir
As you've been doing, year after year....

Thank you Michael....Happy 2002
