Christmas Ablaze

December 2001
And the fires they came
'Twas Christmas morn'

Little girl's cries
Break the smoky haze
Yet another home was gone

Just hours ago
Carols they did sing
Seemed long ago in happier days

The tears they came
With a change in the wind
Just another year, Christmas ablaze

Christmas Day in Australia saw extremely high temperatures and a very strong westerly winds, it continues today. The last news update I had counted over 70 fires burning out of control across New South Wales, it is believed at least 30 homes have been lost to the flames.

Eagle One, this is such sad news. It's hard to remember sometimes when I go outside at below freezing temps that you are in such opposite weather patterns. I hope those fires will be under control soon. And is your home in a safe location?

EagleOne--This happens in California too...a frightening thing, the rage of fire.  My thoughts go to those who have lost to this fury.

Well the news this evening said 100 fires and as many as 140 homes lost. Good news is an expected change in the weather tomorrow will ease the situation, the bad news is that many of these fires were deliberately lit. I join you in your thoughts for those who have lost, thank you!

EagleOne-
Such a sad situation this is, and to know
that so many were deliberately set just
adds to the sadness.
My thoughts and prayers are with all involved.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Hugs,

Eddie, before I saw your poem I heard saw the news and about the fires!  What a shame. And why does some one do a thig like this?  I pray it is only "things" that are lost and not lives.  I also hope the weather report is right for once.  Prayers with all of you.  ME

Your thoughts and prayers have taken the form of some better weather today, though it will only be a brief respite it will be of great benefit in the fight against the flames. Thank you all, take care!

Eagle one
A sad but well written poem about the raging fires across Aus.
Unfortunately they're expecting soaring temperatures and more high winds on Sunday. Let's pray they're wrong.

Be well, be safe and take care.

Maree ~ it was just something I needed to express I guess, my thoughts go out to all those affected by the fires. You take care also!

g ~ it really defies believe that over 40% of these fires are believed to be deliberately lit. I'm at a total loss to try and explain that one.
