The gloom of winter day grows soft
As eventide befalls
I meet thou swift and meet thou oft
Between these hallow'd walls

My prayer and passion in this place
Can deign to lovers tryst
When I behold thy radiant face
And think when we first kiss'd

Beneath yon altar worn by prayer
My prayer is answered soon
I behold thou waiting there
Silhouetted by yon moon

In winter's dark at eventide
My love has troth to keep
I wing forth, stand at thy side
And love in shadows deep

Come the morn in winter's cold
My love forsakes my plight
In light of day no longer bold
To wait again yon night

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Our Kethry, would you please look at this?  Ah my friend, this is so delightful, and I was surprised to see you take up the challenge so soon!  I am glad I was able to stop in today and not only that, but be among the first to say Brava!

I will wait till after the holidays for my next challenge to you.  Even good girls deserve a break or two!

This was wonderful!  Thank you so much for accepting the challenge!

Well I dont know what the challenge was...but I know this poem is waaay cool...
Kethry I love the phrasing and language style in this and the vocab...
most of all your rhyme divine.
Your muse seems to know no limits, your poetry grows and glows with each new write.

Keth darling sister of my soul, and collector of my tears, Oh darling girl what did I say? I said it was outstanding didn't I? Yes yes, see what sitting up at 2am does for you Now don't say I don't do anything for you. What do you mean I don't? I do have other things to do you know! Okay it's a lie I would rather talk to you than clean the fluff out of my keyboard I admit it. Ohhhhhhh as if I could ever fool you. It's true you are my sister of soul, and I think most everyone knows you love me. And yes I love you too.
(Audible aside to the audience she makes me say these things, or she beats me up) That may well have something to do with the 11 hour time difference, She beats me up get it. She's half a day ahead of me
People it's pantomime season, almost anything goes. You wait until the bad jokes start.

Anyway this is utterly utterly wonderful, so are you. Write on my darling sister of soul

Love and warm stuff

Kethry,

This piece was very lovely, and the use of the language is exquisite!  For some reason, I am reminded of A.E. Housman -- must be the language and the visuals that I get.  Well done!

Kethry...A beautiful name...and a very
superbly written poem...much enjoyed..loved
the OLD language style...Does that have
something to do with the challenge?

thank you everyone,
for those interested...I wrote a poem using the word fyffe, being illegitimate *wink*  I didn't know there was any other way to spell it.

Lady in White wrote saying she was expecting olde wold language with the word and was disappointed...she challenged all poets  to write using the speling of the time  and rather than disappoint her (after all you never know who's watching at this time of year) I dashed off this small piece.

Now I pass on the challenge to anyone who can write a period piece using the language, style  and speling of the day. Good luck!
