Listening to every heart

I'm a Keeper

You can't quite call
   me a packrat
      I don't keep 'round
         such stuff
but I'll keep a rock
   or piece of leather
      a wild turkey's feather
         with some fluff

and I tend to keep
   old birthday cards
      and letters, photos,
         nope, can't discard
letters of hope
   and cheer and such
      obituary notices
         so I don't lose touch

then I keep those
   little thoughts
      that creep in
         night and day
little thoughts
   of whim and hope
      that help me abide
         in times of cope

I keep old clothes
   in hopes of thin
      and keep fat clothes
         I know how I am
I keep old candles
   just in case
      and locks of hair
         I can't replace

I keep my teacups
   and angels close
      and a bit of shell
         from a Florida coast
I keep my music
   close to me
      and I cherish
         all my memories

I keep my word
   I keep my keys
      I keep my shy
         close to me
I keep routine
   of the day
      I keep the comfort
         of when I pray

I keep the feeling
   when on the land
      of walking beside
         eternal command
I keep the wisdom
   of past ages
      and keep the
         language of the sages

I keep your words
   the ones of life
      the ones of love
         those of strife
I keep them safe
   in my library
      and quite glad
         I have that key

I keep my friends
   all the time
      and very glad
         to call them mine
I keep my heart
till I give it to you
      yes, I'm a keeper
         through and through

It appears that you are a packrat of the heart.  A very nice poem, Karilea.  Keep on, keeping on and I'll keep reading.    Warm wishes to you!

Kari darling girl, I remember this one, if you're going to repost such wonderful poems as these, can I use the same replies? I'd have to dig around in the archives, but that's no hardship. Didn't I write a poem about me being a loser? Well last Christmas I was but not this year.

Wonderful writing darling girl I love it, I did before and it's still wonderful. like fine wine your writing improves each day. And just like fine wine you improve with age

Love and warm stuff

I read the title and was nodding "Yes... you ARE a keeper!" - whether I use the definition of someone who keeps the faith, respects the past, and shares her wisdom... or a treasure, someone to cherish. *S*

Of course, then I started reading... and this collector of things both valuable and useless who's having to move from one nest to another just chuckled as you described my life... though I might as well confess I'm a bona fide packrat! LOL

I like this very much, Sunshine... it's a keeper going right into my library. *S*

It seems to me that you are a packrat!  Very lovely poem though, the memories we have will forever be remembered, recalling great moments in our lifetime.

Sunshine, that poem was delightful.  I am a bit worse though.  I am an unfortunate pack rat of most everything.  Thank God my wife is the opposite.  Oh before I forget.  I posted the poem.  Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.  Merry Christmas.  Roger

Karilea - I love this poem because it says so much about you, the person so many of us have come to love as a sister and friend.  You are a keeper, because you keep yourself in our hearts.  Never lose that wonderful quality of yours to stretch and reach.

I've gotten into the habit of not responding to my own poems, but rather, going to YOUR poetry to read, and respond.  Saying "thank you" to everyone for your responses on this one is more than mandatory, however, it is an act of caring to give back to all of you that which you have given me...

unconditional acceptance.

I know I post stinkers now and then, but I will continue to try and lift each and every one of you as I am allowed...because that is what poetry should do...that, and make one think...

so while you're thinking, remember to be touched.  Each and every artist of word here in Passions is just that...a unique individual who has something to share...

Keepers
all...

and while I'm at it...

Merry Christmas!!
