This poem is to my step daughter who I have full custody of. I love her with all my heart. I hope you enjoy it. **hugs**

Love Is Thicker Than Blood

You came to me at sixteen months
while my youngest was sixteen years
They said I was out of my mind
people considered to be peers

I looked into your deep brown eyes
with small arms reaching out to me
Something inside melted with joy
capturing my heart instantly

Many years of love filled with pain
we shared from a man of abuse
Protecting you the best I could
his anger I could not defuse

Leaving I fought to make you mine
that you would not live in such fear
Voices said 'why a stepdaughter?'
not seeing I held you so dear

Now at my side you live your life
with music, singing and laughter
Joy lights your face as we share love
my sweet little brown eyed charmer

We still shed tears from time to time
as feelings pour forth in a flood
Our closeness all can clearly see
that this Love Is Thicker Than Blood

Karen...I remember the day you wrote this..
We had all wished Erin happy birthday that
day...And she had all her friends over there
for the party...Lou and I talked to you
that day...

You are a warm and devoted mother...You have
worked extremely hard to provide Erin with
love and happiness...you try desperately to
give her everything that you feel she needs.

You both are wonderful ladies...

Lovely poem Karen!  I am so glad that the two, or should i say the three of you live such happy lives together as a family.  Your stepdaughter must be delighted to be with you today!

When you love a child, it does not matter that they are not biologically yours. You are both very lucky to have each other. As the daughter of a step-father, I can only say that I agree wholeheartedly that love is indeed thicker than blood.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Love. It knows no bloodlines, it knows no boundaries when it comes from the heart. Thank you, Karen, for this wonderful love poem. I will keep it, if you don't mind.
