~* January's Bills Get You Down? *~
to the tune of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Oh, you better not charge
When presents you buy.
You better not charge
I’m telling you why...

January’s bills get you down.

They want you to buy a lot now,
They think of ways to get you to spend,
Be careful when you sign that slip,
is that money on which you depend?

Oh, you better not charge,
The presents you buy,
You better not charge,
And I’m telling you why…

January’s bills get you down.

They make it so appealing,
And it’s more than you want to spend,
You give them your credit card,
Forgetting interest they append.

Oh, you better not charge,
The presents you buy,
You better not charge,
And I’m telling you why…

January’s bills get you down.

The minute you sign on that line,
Interest is added to the cost,
Ever wonder why in January,
Your Christmas spirit is lost?

You better not charge,
The presents you buy,
You better not charge,
And I’m telling you why…

January’s bills get you down.

It’s better to give nothing at all,
Give of yourself, avoid the debt.
You’ll feel so much better,
And so will they I bet!

Oh, you better not charge,
The presents you buy,
You better not charge,
And I’m telling you why…

January’s bills get you down.

The greatest gift I ever received was a box full of love from my son at age 12, and in it were slips of paper telling me all the things about me he liked, remembered, or where important to him!  Another time my friend on unemployment insurance gave me a promise in a card to do something with me with me when I least expected it. We went river rafting when she found work, and had a blast!  In other words, sometimes the greatest gifts don't need to be in fancy wrapping paper and ribbon, but are inside yourself.

~* Merry Christmas One And All *~
and
~* Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish Friends as well *~

Smiling at this, I have no choice but to stay away from charges...I only use a debit card, and even that has gotten me into trouble a couple of times. LOL, January is always a break even month for me ever since my charge cards were cut up.

This is very true, Sharon! I don't own a credit card, but my husband does. I think he might have even learned his lesson, too.
I wish you a very merry christmas and a happy new year, too.

Noah your enthusiasm is unreal and I thank you so much for your comment as it took a lot of work -

And I see we have some pretty smart people here who used scissors on their cards, good for you!  I wish you a wonderful holiday and now that i know you don't have to pay in January I am sure you will. LOL Merry Christmas to each of you!

Help, I can't get out...
Very fun poem though, humming the song the whole way through.

Thanks Titia, Sandra, and yes Nan, get it straight will ya, that means don't buy anything if you have to charge it!  How many presents do you actually remember in January really?  Try it one time.  But that poor person who bought it may well be paying for it all darn year, get my point sort of? LOL - I cut mine up years ago, and I have never done without a thing since.

This is so true!!! My favorite gifts have always been the company of loved ones and friends, sharing laughs and spreading cheer.

We do need to get away from the bought as much as possible, except for the less fortunate. Our office adopted a family this year. A single mother with 3 children. You know what was on their x-mas list? Not one single toy. Shoes, clothes. It is most rewarding to give this way.

Love, Peace and Joy!

Sincerely,
Regina

Hi Sharon, thanks for the nice welcome from an old starlite poster.  The best Christmas present is love.  Do you ever notice how material presents are compared.  Love presents are never compared.  Merry Christmas.  Loved your poem.  I sang through all the verses.  Roger

I loved humming the melody along with this as I read through Sharon ... very well done, indeed! Wise words to serve as a gentle reminder ... before the January "surprise".

Best wishes,
/Kit

What a cute song, and with much truth to it. Yes, I always charge too, but one of these days I will cut up those cards!!Lol. You are very right though about the best gifts being the kind that don't cost money. My best gifts are just having a wonderful family and friends around me. I need never get another present as long as I always have them.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?
