Crack by crack
I edge my way to
each new toehold,
proceeding sometimes
only with the help
of an outreached hand.
Daylight I began
to envision
but hatred’s roots
tighten around my ankles,
standing me
still...and then
starts the backwards pull.
Momentum scrambles
me into the darkness,
I try not to swallow
fighting each breath
lest I gag on the blackness.
Saturated, my scream clinched
silent by teeth held tight.
My movements stifled
for fear of sliding further
With the last glimmer
I reach for my eyes,
but they are open.
There is nothing left,
no want
to go on.
No hope.
Into the abyss
a little further from
reality’s grasp
I slide.
In my pitch-black existence
with all my senses
on the brim of going
over, I can’t be sure, but
I think I hear
distant bells
tolling…

(tears fall down my cheeks) Such pain and despair fills these sad words, sweet friend, my heart cries out to you! (sad sigh) Never give up the fight against sorrow, always listen to your loving heart and believe in yourself and soar to the bells of heaven and hope! (sad sigh) We all love you so very much, sweet friend, my heart and prayers are always with you, and we are always here if you need someone to talk to! (big hugggssssss) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Oh.... you snuck this in on me... and now I'm going to miss my bus because leaving without replying simply isn't an option. *S*

feeling guilty yet? *G*

This leaves me completely awestruck, lady... and heartbroken that you're experiencing the feelings you've woven into such a powerful poem. The poem is simply fantastic... one of your best. The pain is wrenching. I applaud the poet and hurt for my friend. So many of us have a nemesis... it may be hatred or addiction or fear or something uniquely ours... that exercises undue control, always trying to snatch us back into the pits just when we think we're finally free - you've written so well of the despair felt when once again, we have to recognize its power.

But yanno what? *S* My bet's still on the prisoner... and my hopes hug her tightly. *S* So hang in there!!! Love you!
