Wilma was a small town girl
she led a simple life.
She held inside her biggest fear,
she'd never be a wife.

She was such a pretty thing,
a round and chubby child.
With humor in her brown eyes
that twinkled when she smiled.

She held the hurt within her
when the boys would point and laugh.
Growing larger day by day
as she wandered down life's path.

She had a laugh that made you smile
infectious as it was.
Telling jokes about herself,
it's what a fat girl does.

One day a tall man came to town,
with dark eyes and curly hair.
Wilma worked at the diner,
and she fell in love right there.

Now he was not the marrying kind,
he told her from the start.
She smiled and said she understood,
but was to late, she'd lost her heart.

She gave him all she had to give
love she'd held since childhood.
Her love made him a wealthy man,
he just never understood.

Drinkin' and women that's all he knew,
he was always on the run.
He left her with a piece of him
then ran off to have his fun.

She took the gift he'd left her
and walked proud her head held high.
And all the pointing and laughing
never dimmed the twinkle in her eye.

She raised his son to be a man,
struggled hard and gave him life.
And just three years before she died,
she became a kind man's wife.

She taught her son to look beyond,
"Size can't define who a heart loves."
This isn't just what fat girls do,
it's what a "Woman" does.

Remember me with a smile on your face, or please don't remember me at all.

Lucie...Lucie,
What a wonderful tribute to your mom. Her love lives on because of you. I dread that time of life, but I'm old enough my turn is coming. Thank you so much for sharing this story. You did it with class, friend!

The past is history and the future is a mystery, but today is a gift and that is why it is the present!

Lucie - A beautiful poem... I do have one question - You're a man?  I'm getting confused here.  But it still does not diminish the wonderful poem.  I'm sorry for your loss.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh my gosh, I cried throughout this sad but beautiful story of your beautiful angelic mother! My heart cries out that she had to go through so much pain and torment, but I also cried in joy to feel her loving words touch you and her loving family and friends and give the most beautiful gift of love to you and her son! (wipes tears) God Bless You, sweet friend, your mother is a true angel just like you! She will always be so lucky to have such a loving and beautiful you, just as you will always be happy to have her! (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lucie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
