I close my eyes and dream
And he is a corporate executive
Or maybe a hot shot lawyer
He holds the door to his Mercedes
And whisks me off to dinner
Crystal and china, linen napkins and tablecloths
Fine wine and a seven course meal
Followed by dancing at the newest "in" club
Then off to his penthouse for a nightcap
And to watch the lights of the city
I feel his warm kiss
And open my eyes to
Ragged jeans and a torn T shirt
Dirt smeared across his cheek
From planting the rosebush he surprised me with
Ten minutes he says
Ten minutes to get ready for our payday date
Fast food and a movie
Parking by the lake in our old pickup truck
Watching the stars light up the sky
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...reality

LOL, this is a good reality check poem. Both images are interesting. Fantasy sure is fun, isn't it? We can go anywhere we want to in our minds.

Paula, I love it!!  Make do with the jeans etc. What do you need with all that other stuff.  Remember, love is blind.  ME

You know, Lady?   In light of the simple delights, I think I'll take the lasting of endearment of the second scene rather than the first.

Simplicity is easily enjoyed, and SOMETIMES comfort comes at too high a cost.

Enjoyed this!

Hi Paula, yes but you know something, nothing matters but the sincerity in a man's heart, no amount of money on earth can buy that!

Whether rich or poor, be happy that you have a companion that cares about you.  Nice write, Paula.

In all of my many years so far, Paula...
I have found that sincerity and caring are far more important than money.
I'd take the guy in the jeans any day
Great poem...I loved the duality of the images set upon each other.

Paula darling girl, my sweet sister this is utterly wonderful I really do love this. Fabulous writing as always.

The world of fantasy may be fabulous for some, but reality ahhhhhhhh that is where the dreams can come true. And the dream you live is better by far than the fantasy you imagine. We both know that soooooo well

Love and warm stuff
As always

Ahhh yes that's reality...funny I was teaching proverbs tonight like don't judge a book by it's cover! If you love him and he loves you as you are,it's worth so much more than the fancy meals and furnishings where there may be no love at all, I think...but we're all intitled to dream!Like how you connect the dream to reality, it's a nice poem!
