I returned to valley of childhood days
Where dreams were first created, in sun’s fading rays
My mind hears the laughter, my heart views the past
How I thought this time, would forever last

Adult eyes now see sadness, despair
And I realize, life isn’t always fair
Things change, as people so often do
Only the memories remain ever true

Expecting to see faces from my yesterday
Instead blank stares from minds in decay
Troubled people with worries and woe
More pain in their eyes, than I care to know

The town seems faded, colors not as bright
Familiar things of comfort, now no where in sight
Christmas Tree Lane, has all been cut down
A lifetime’s moment, in a drive across town

Susan,

It is sad how so much can change. But at least we have those memories to hold close in our heart.  Wonderful write as usual my friend

thank you Tara, this is a very true poem for me....I went to the town I grew up in over the weekend, and it hurts my heart every time. I'm really glad I have such good childhood memories though

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Susan, I know just how you feel; it saddens me to see times change so fast and memories seem vague when nothing is ever the same! (sigh) My heart is with you, sweet friend, and hope that somehow these cherished memories can be preserved forever with love! (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet Susan! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Susan, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Sue...good to see you on the boards...

I know this well.  I went back to my childhood home....stood on the bare ground
surrounded by familiar oaks and pecan trees.
An empty space between them where my
grandparents lived for many years...The
house gone....only a familiar tool shed
still standing in the back of the yard...
I spent many days playing in that shed...

Yep....the memories are beautiful....the
reality is sometimes so sad...

Thank You for writing this...I relate to
it toooo well.

I don't believe that life is unfair.  From adversity we grow and gather strength, find hope.  This is a very good write, my friend.  Much enjoyed and I like a poem that makes me think, as this one allowed me to do so.  BIG (((hugs)))

*sigh* how very sad. I guess we can never really return to our childhood but we do have memories that help us to return whenever we want. **big hugs**

Very effective, and sadly true about so many situations. Can we ever really go back home?

How sadly true....

I guess it’s true what they say, you can’t always go back. Though, in going back, sometimes we appreciate where we are now a little more.

Beautifully written, Sue...
I can certainly empathasize with you on this one.  Last summer I did the same thing and was so sad to see that the trees surrounding the house where I grew up, had been cut down.
I don't ever plan to go back there again.

thank you all so much....I unfortunately have to go "home" periodically, as we still have family there....it breaks my heart to see the town I grew up in, and have so many beautiful happy memories in, be so ragged and worn and down right sad......it really isn't the same anymore. Very bittersweet for me. Again, thank you all very much

Susan,
Very nice and true poem. The visions in our memories are comforting and when they are matched to reality, they lose their luster. Luckily when we leave again, the memories find their way back.
