Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-12-11 12:44 PM

There were the times, there was no time,
harvest was full til moon in rime ~
the days wore on like was no end,
dark to dark was the constant trend

Busy hands and busier souls
brought in harvest before the cold,
that which would warm winter's night
while the candles flickered bright

Food for hands too busy to eat
except on the run of the cold to beat ~
the nights were cooling, losing summer sun
there was only the work, none for fun

Yet in the dwell of the landscape's dell,
there rang a sweet sound, the Christmas bell
a time to come still, hold one's love
and watch the ascent of the Christmas dove

For in that love made the life so sweet
in the eve when they could remeet
to watch the children with their shining eyes
for these were the times that built strong ties

By silvered string, and golden thread,
by flow of blood, their love was bred ~
by blue of eyes, and green of lust
by sacred bond, and cherished trust

And in the dark when all did sleep
in their arms they both did keep
for regardless of the years to pass
in their souls, they knew they would last

~*~

With the assistance of a spirited Muse who would rather the Soddy stories
stay in our memories...

True recollections from a Kansas farmer's daughter?  Very sweetly done, Karilea.

Karilea..this is a magnificent poem of
hard but beautiful times during the harvest.
So many of us are fortunate to have others
who do just this...day after day...
