"How long did it take you to get so ugly?"  she asked
"you need to see a plastic surgeon
he'll fix you fast and then you'll see
your inner beauty emerging"

my nose was fixed in a perfect shape
dipped in the middle...end turned up pert
a smooth complexion...wrinkles gone
and silicone implants beneath my shirt

the plastic surgeon with expensive hands
pulled taut...my middle aged face
and now...with those tiny lines of life
my complexion is no longer graced

"and now that your face looks better"...she said
"we must get to work on your hair
I'll take you to my hairdresser...
and you'll look like the cover of Vanity Fair"

each week...my hair is coiffed and sprayed
each month the grey hairs dyed
to match my youthful color
and make those photos lie

my beauty will last forever
or as long as I can pay...
the surgeon and the hairdresser
to keep my uglies at bay

"how did you get so ugly?"
my mother always queried
"It didn't come from ME"...she said
ah yes!!! she's quite a dearie

Thanks, Titia...I believe that you are probably right about that...at the very least, she will be awake all night for several months. There are so many great ones that I don't know how she will pick a winner...

Thanks Stevie...but I don't think you are even close to ugly!

Thanks Robert...
The funny part about this poem is that at least one part of it is true...
My mother always asks my sister and me, how we got so ugly?
We used to take her seriously...well.....actually, she is serious but we have finally gotten over her,   although it took us about 30 years!
Thanks for commenting.

Lyra - It is me Dledge.  Yes, your worst fear has come true, I have started to reply to poems again.  The poem is amusing, especially the last stanza.  Well done.

By the way, I like the picture.  It really adds a nice personal touch.

My worst fear!!!!!!!!
So Dave, now you are GenXer!!
Its great to see you posting here, even if it is my worst nightmare!
I looked for one of your poems but it looks like so far, you've just replied to others.

Come on Dave...post one of your great poems for everyone to read...I will be watching for one.

and when you get 50 posts...I'll be watching for your picture.

Isn't it funny that JCP is disguising himself as Opeth...no one else seems to have recognized him except you and me.
I figured it out a couple of days ago through his poetry.  Its so unique, he's hard to miss!  I guess the gangs all here!
