"THE LADY IN BLACK"
(Copyright 2001 by: MARK V SHELDON

The Lady In Black
reads her men front to back

through a dark silken veil
eyes know more than their tale

for her windows of soul
exude mystic control

over men trapped in stare
mesmerized by the flare

of a fire which burns
with desire and turns

a hypnotic allure
to a lust they endure

even time must stand still
when her eyes force their will

framed by scarf and by shawl
onyx gems watch them fall

for control they all lack
not The Lady In Black

Wow....a really wonderful piece...
But don't you think you are being unfair?

Wait for my other ladies clad in other colors....

Those poor women in Afghan... if only they knew what they lacked... only a taste of freedom would turn their cheeks to the Taliban and the other extremists. That's what this reminded me of. I thought the prose was well-written, and hoo-boy the topic...it may not have been what you had in mind, though...

Oh I love to wear black clothes, it's so mysterious yet sexy! Not all black like gothic, but maybe like black pants with black boots and a bright colored top.

My Melody...  unfair?  To whom?  The particular lady of my poem wears black for a reason -- that's not to say that ALL ladies who wear black would choose to be like "Carmen" or "Delilah"...  And, if you think about it, this poem could actually be "unfair" to the males -- painting them as such "washcloths"...

LadySofia:  interesting interpretation...  Although your tangent was not my conscious intent, I think you have a valid point.  Poetry has not only the author's intent but also the reader's decipher.  Thanks for the thoughts!

Thank you, Sandra.  I don't know that it's "nice" though...

Hey there, Nancy -- glad you visited!

Hi Sunshine:  thanks for the warm rays!

RosePetal:  Yummy.
