You are the daughter of my soul
you didn't grow in my womb...
lying softly against the beating of my heart

you never took nourishment at my breast
I never knew your childhood fantasies
or teenage whims

in my youth...I prayed for a daughter
a daughter who would play with dolls
and give tea parties

a daughter who would grow into a friend
a friend...I could talk to
about makeup and clothes
and stars...and rainbows

instead...I was blessed with beautiful sons
sons who talked of baseball and cars
sons who caught fireflies in jars

one of those beautiful sons married you

and...if I could design for myself...a daughter
if I were to have her made
just to order

if I were to steal from the skies
the stars for her eyes
if I were to specify her size

I could have designed for myself...
no daughter...more perfect than you

you are the daughter of my soul

Lyra darling girl ohhhhhhhhh how glad I am to see you here.   Do you think the rest will know I'm bussing my friends in? Maybe, oh well what the heck I'll shout it from the rooftops, Your attention everyone, these are my friends. This is Lyra who really writes some of the best poetry in the whole of Moontown and now Passions. You'll have the other poets gnashing their teeth in jealousy and frustration darling girl.

Lyra,
Beautiful poem. I had a tough time getting it to rhyme though.   You will have to explain that username to me.

Dear Lyra,
Hi! I'm here, too. I like the whimsy at this site, don't you? Loved your poem. I remembered it from before, and was glad to read it again. It's lovely. I don't have any of these wonderful creatures in my life yet, I guess I'd better nudge my boys to get busy.

Thanks for the GREAT BIG WELCOME, Marsha!
I sent an email to everyone at MTC whose address I had, telling them about this site...
Martin gave me some more addresses...so I sent it to lots of people....so, we will probably have lots of company.
How do you change the sizes on the fonts?
I haven't been able to figure that one out yet?

Hi Roger....I was so happy to see you here........and with my very favorite poem of all time  "Dear John"
My poem, "Daughter of my Soul" started out to be free verse, and the rhymes just got in there by accident...which is probably why you had trouble with them.
I call myself "Madame Chipmunk" because David's pet name for me is "chipmunk" and I was just going to use that but then no one would know whether I was male of female, so I put the "Madame" in front of it because I don't know of any men who call themselves "Madame"...Do You?
My license plate even says CHIPMNK...we can only have 7 characters on it in Michigan.
Anyway....its great to see you here

This is lovely... I'm so glad you feel that way about your daughter-in-law. It seems in some families there is a lot of tension and problems with in-laws, but obviously not with yours! Welcome to Passions, and hope to see more from you!

Lyra,

Yup, I finally made it over from Moontown  .  I've been browsing through and liking what I see.  I lost interest in my poetry for awhile.  I just got busy, and life just kind of pulled me along like some kind of toy.  But after reading your work, I realize how much I miss it.  Thanks for sending that e-mail out and directing me here.  Wonderful work ... I'm glad to see that love lives in more than just blood.  See you around!  I look forward to posting here!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, Bec.
This was written for a daughter in law who is the widow of my son who died last year at age 30.  She just remarried and we are still very close.
I'm glad you enjoyed the poem

Welcome Chelle...this is the first time I have welcomed someone here...wow!

This is a very nice site...I think you will really enjoy it here....it is just too bad about MTC, isn't it?
But we will have most of the family over here, sooner or later.  If you know of anyone from MTC who will like this site, please forward them a copy of my email.
Again...thanks for coming here...and enjoy
yourself
