Life In Your Face
By Larry Chadwick

Life is mostly what you want it to be,
It is completely up to you and not me.
You make the choice to view it as grand,
Or you choose to view it as totally bland.

Even if people treat you bad and are rude,
It’s up to you if it will really ruin your mood.
And if the guy you work for is a nasty boss,
That does not mean that you should be cross.

If the driver behind you wants in your trunk,
Don’t let him put your whole day in a funk.
After all, you are surrounded by chariots,
Almost all of them driven by pure idiots.

And for those who have their problems at home,
Where you find all the wrong reasons to moan.
You still have a choice in how you look at life,
Especially if you find it particularly full of strife.

I remember when everyday I had to go to school,
There always seemed to be a way to feel like a fool.
It was there that I learned that attitude did matter,
I had to choose between being happy or getting sadder.

That is when I knew that my children really needed to know,
Almost all of life is about teaching you how to really grow.
So if you have a chip on your shoulder and get in my face,
That’s okay, but I still know how to put you in your place.

Just because the rest of the world is angry and in a rage,
Still doesn’t force me to sing from the very same page.
Because I have seen the poor and even sad side of life,
I have experienced the pain and agony caused by strife.

And for every moment I live out my earthy existence,
I get to choose whether I offer cooperation or resistance.
Every moment I don’t enjoy is a moment that is wasted,
When instead it could have been a pleasure that I tasted.

So you can have a pity party if that is what you choose,
But please don’t invite me I haven’t those moments to lose.
On the other hand, if you have most anything to celebrate,
An invitation isn’t required for being with you would be great.

Were you following me today on the highway when I got mad at the giant sized Dodge Ram truck tailgating my little Toyota Tercel  tail? HAHA I kept my cool (no choice, it was -28F in town today at 4PM!!) The sun comes up around 10AM and is gone before 3PM.
I was a grocery store grouch, just ask my daughter. But I was laughing again by 5PM. Does that mean I've finally matured enough to "not sweat the small stuff" anymore?

How's that for a ramble?

Midnitesun,
Now why would I ever think that you're not mature? Huh? Way to rebound! At our age rambling is allowed.

ahhhhhh!!!!! yes!!!!

life is just the way you think!
and when the plumbing's stopped, the sink
filled up with clogs and thoughts that bog
you down with garbage fuming stink..
remember, it is you who holds
the remedy, as life unfolds,
your Attitude, the major thing
that has control of  ev'rything!

to think, to be, to live, to gain,
are reasons dancing in the rain
inside of you, while hearts bleed through
your words, your heart, you cannot feign!

to think and live the negative
can drain your soul
within a seive
and eat tomorrow
with a blast -
a gust blown powerful,
the past,
in hold of you
while trying to
find ways to view
tomorrow cast

like sunrise morn'
horizons born
with hope instilled
in dreams which last....

our hearts must fly to yes, my friend,
then circle atmospheres again
while thinking thoughts of yes and more....
we wave the tides of our endure
and move on to another shore!

-------

thank you for your verse! it was beautiful and it inspired me!

Yes, we are still like rubber bands even at our age, gramps. Re-boundable even if not as bendable. Ouch, my poor old tennis elbow is yelling at me again, and my tree climbing legs are not willing to shinny up a tree anymore. But don't count me down and out just yet, I may enter the Senior Olympics soon. (Ya, right!) When LIFE gets too much in your face, what can you do but laugh it off? Besides, smiling puts nicer wrinkles on it than frowning.

How true how true…why can’t everyone just get off the damn road when I want to drive!!!!! Lol

I agree with your thoughts on life completely. Life is what you make of it and how you choose to see it, and the other people that cross your life. I prefer to think all others are basically good, and that I can have a happy life if I so wish,

Every moment I don’t enjoy is a moment that is wasted,
When instead it could have been a pleasure that I tasted.

Much wisdom in those lines my friend. Much wisdom written in this entire poem. So nice to see your picture…now we know the face behind the words. Always nice to know who you’re talking too.

Tracey,
Yup, nice to know I'm writing to a gorgeous red head! My son recently reminded me that as a kid I always told him if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Just part of the joy of getting older. Really enjoyed your feed back.

Virgo Rains,
So I'm thinking postive attitudes owe no apologies. Chips on shoulders are either meant to fall off or get knocked off! Sorry, I get carried away... Thanks
By the way, welcome to Passions!!!

Life in your face. My sister used to say "stick it in your ear."  Mom said sister said "rear", so she stuck a bar of Ivory soap in sister's mouth, because she said REAR was a cuss word. ?????

*grin* you are so very right. We each of us choose how we will react to life. After all "Stuff Happens" that is what life is all about...but what makes the difference is how we are going to respond to the stuff. *giggling* I love this one, Larry. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Startime,
Some of us have had more stuff than others. But sometimes we're the ones who have the most positive attitude. (Just my opinion)Thanks!
