“Second Rate” They said I was a rider, When I was a kid. And swore I’d win the title, One time I almost did… They said that I could cover- Most anything with hair… I’d walk off with the buckles, And the girls at every fair. I started with a Permit- When I had turned eighteen… I didn’t make a fortune, But I was pulling in some green. Another cowboy helped me, And I became his pard… It wasn’t but a year or two, Before I had my Card. I’d finish well, near every year- But never good enough. At last I finally realized… I didn’t have the stuff- To be a sure nuff Champion- A cowboy must be great, It’s a bitter pill to swallow- When you know you’re “second rate.” |

Love it, love it, love it. I know a cowboy like this. But to me, it doesn't matter if a cowboy is second rate or not. If you've got the guts to get up there, you're always going to be first rate! Bec's right, John. If you got the guts you get the grade in my book too. Loved the poem by the way. Andrea Summon the courage to step out of your familiar rut and suddenly many of those things which held you back will no longer have the power to do so. |
