standing on a shadow's lace

Whiskered Angel

today I touched an angel's face
a five o’clock shadow it wore
his voice holds untold grace
his touch heals much more

whiskers rubbing against my fever
truly made me sigh
feeling them close to me
as he embraced me good-bye

yesterday he found out I was sick
and there was a knock at my door
wearing a smile so thick
with gifts of comfort from the store

there was soup, medicine and flowers
a list he had followed to the letter
even candy he must have spent hours
everything in those bags could make you feel better

I watched as he put most away alone
thinking how grateful I was he was there
thanking him for his kindness shown
reminding him he might get the fever (said he didn’t care)

my head was pounding I couldn’t think
soon I had to lay back down
as he offered me something to drink
hot tea, honey and aspirin would be our next round

he covered me in quilt and kindness
sat and watched me as I slept
another flaw (of me)he sees in blindness
no sleep in his vigil of me is kept

now it is morning and he not wanting to leave my fevered chill
but off to work he must go
exhausted from yesterday watching me sleep ill
this whiskered angel promises to call to check on me soon though

Helen: What a wonderful poem! Who couldn't love someone when they care for you that way? Kinda makes me wish I had someone to look after when they're sick

It is a treasured time when we have someone you can depend on during a rough time it reminded me of when I was ill- Ifound out who my true friends really are and who was my Angel
Very nice sentiment.

Like a Candle
that continually burns
in our hearts
Protected, from the wind
and never doused.

A Musician must make his Music,
An Artist must Paint,
A Poet must Write,
if he/she is to ultimately
be at Peace with himself.

You know I love this one, it made me feel so melancholy for some reason!

Lucky you.
Well, not to be ill of course, but to have that angel handy!
And good to see that you are well enought to pay tribute with this poem.
Pass the soup . . .
