I suppose there should be loss
some feeling I sink into when I know
how much you can't be my friend.
At first there was the anger
the beligerent tone I took
when you made the mistake of misjudging me.
I tolerated your judgement
although that throne doesn't belong to you.
So now I sit and listen to more of you
how you sit behind a closed door
and pretend to know who I am
stagnating in your assumptions
and truthfully
putting my accepting view of you
into an ugly alternate state of fading discoloration.
Once I tried, although I am no martyr
for friendship's poster of good deeds,
to put my hand forward sincerely
but when I turned my back
you stepped on the smile I gave you.
I'm told not to waste my time,
but how can I be any less kind to you
than any others I would forgive for their mistakes?
I couldn't be.
And although if you knew me I would be no saint in your eyes,
How much is it to ask that you be kind
and open to me
at least until you have the means
to decide on your dislike for me?
I see you though
watching me from your corner
afraid to approach my demeanor
with your obviously inquisitive mind.
Were I any less gentle,
I might yank you out of it
and demand your thoughts be bare,
but for now I am no slave to my anger
only these words, my carrier for it.

Your storm of assumption feeds anger I am calm enough to hold inside. Don't pretend to know me if you've never put stretched out your heart with since

Very well said, Temptress. When someone 'steps on your smile' it this understandable:

"Were I any less gentle,
I might yank you out of it
and demand your thoughts be bare,
but for now I am no slave to my anger
only these words, my carrier for it."

You chose the most mature way to deal with the problem.
