When sunlight falls You are in the whispers of dawn Sunlight still awakes me each day To a butterscotch sky I have never been a stranger to love I still remember First Love-first kiss My memory still takes me back to Yesterday Where love bloomed in a field of lilacs It is a sentimental journey I take back on the train of time Where memories grow in shades of green Looking across the table Gazing into your eyes I wonder... How Long did it Take You to get that Ugly? Did love blind me to your ugliness? Were you a toad from the start? Or did you sprout those warts As you tried to jump away from my heart? Mama always said that before I met my prince I would have to kiss a lot of toads But she never told me When at last I found my prince He would change into a frog Yet in spite of that Together we still sit upon On our lily pad Remembering the past Not forgetting the bakers' dozen children We spawned in sweet memories past They are a another leg Upon this journey we began So many years ago So sweet toad of a husband Your ugliness I can handle Your warts I'm sure Have rubbed off on me So don't tell ya Sweet little old ugly Mama "Get off the train of memories" For love never jumped the tracks The caboose May be bringing up the rear But I'll keep my memory bag packed I'll keep it scented With thoughts of lily pad dreams Until it's time for me to croak [This message has been edited by Songbird (edited 11-30-2001).] |
