Walk With Me

Please take my hand and walk with me
along the eastern shore
Feel magic winds of living sea
while to the past we soar

Upon its timeless rocks we stand
now seeing time unfurled
Let's touch the current of this land
when it was the new world

To share this land was first the goal
with people everywhere
History tells you've played the roll
showing to all you care

With strength and courage once unknown
Pilgrims fought to be free
Your past reveals how much you've grown
from sea to shining sea

By sword this country you did claim
freedom for one and all
America is now her name
with liberty your call

With Constitution's perfect laws
you rule this land of yours
And still you fight for righteous cause
while guarding her fair shores

I ask of you with gleaming eyes
your past that I may touch
So from the dust I'll hear the cries
of those who did so much

Though not of you I take such pride
while learning all you've done
Someday I hope to take a guide
to all your battles won

Sunshine...Thank you, so much. I am glad you enjoyed this poem. **hugs**

Sandra...Perfection is not something that exists in our world. But at least your country has tried to uphold what freedom represents. I have noticed that the first to admit there have been mistakes made is your country...do we as people not believe that often much is learned by the very mistakes we as humans make. *giggling* now I feel like I am lecturing. Sweetie..I am Canadian and I can sit back and see all that is good and sometimes bad that has happened in your history and still be in awe of the heart that fills your people. You are unique throughout history and the heart of who you are lays in the very foundations of your nation. I think your country is absolutely wonderful and the American people to be the best in the world. I love traveling south of the boarder.  **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

A wonderful tribute to a great country Karen. I too, love to travel in America..her people are so proud of their great country, and rightly so. Reading what you wrote to Sandra, I agree with you. I wish we Canadians took as much pride in our country. We tend to look at our shortcomings, as opposed to being proud of our accomplishments. It just seems to be part of our culture. (or maybe it's the newspapers I read...I dont know   )

Karen, this is so patriotic! Makes me wonder if there are people like you in Singapore. People who feel so strongly for the country and what our ancestors went through to fight for her independence.

Thank you for putting such a wonderful message into poetry about this. It's truly lovely
