Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-11-29 03:29 PM

Cherokee Maiden's Tears

Glistening, gleaming, long black braids
streaming down her slender back
bronzed blade of disrobed shoulder
where she carries her knapsack
to cool pooled water's shore
to sit, to hold in limbo, trust,
there willow whispers nevermore
tears shed from shamed disgust

quit herself of native camp,
distanced she from warmer fire
maiden Cherokee thereby sought
to drown fierce and inner desire
to sooth wearied nerves and then
to purge away the thought of him
O she the maiden Cherokee sought
to fight this, the love he brought

White Man, a terrible plight
ravaged her heart this very night
blues eyes spiked her eyes of coal
spears thrust to her very soul
sought she by cool pool's shore
to douse this lust forevermore
willow whispers nevermore
but fire ravaged her very core

slipping into water's abyss
fevered dreams brought no bliss
mind rampant of White Man's kiss
no good could come of this
Mother, Father would then decline
to call on Spirits of Indian kind
to shed their daughter of this descent
into Hell's gate she was bent

Cherokee Maiden's tears then fell
into the pool and there still dwell
for maiden, she gave up to him
and in dark of night, they still swim
under caliginous sky and pool's haven
meet the White Man and Cherokee maiden
there circles can be seen on pond
where their love lives on and on.

Oh Karilea!  Now you just KNOW I love this!
I am so pleased you brought this back as I missed it before.  What a sad but beautiful tale of forbidden love this is.  Thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon.

What a beautiful poem of true love. And it's a nice tribute for Marge, who really is a very special soul.

(sigh) Oh my gosh, this was so sad but my heart rejoiced in the end to feel the spirit of the Cherokee live on! (smiles) Most of my family ancestry is Cherokee Indian too, and I love all the tales I read! (smiles) I just know Marge will cherish this always, for she is such a beautiful loving friend like you! (kiss on cheek) I LOVE IT!!! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

This is very well written, karilea.  The mood stays the samethroughout the poem.  I like the way you didn't tell the whole story in just one verse, but built it out of all the verses.  Great work here.  It shows a lot of depth and intelligence in the way you approach your writing.

Well if this wasn't the most beautiful dedication and to to Marge most fittingly too!  This was beautiful - so beautiful in fact, I didn't even leave you a picture for this one, as it speaks more artistically than I could find.   Just lovely Karilea. (took it - lol) I really have to find time to get into the archives.
