How Long Does it Take?

How long does it take for a heartache to end?
How easy for pieces of heart break to mend?
As easy as making a rainbow unbend

How long does it take to stop feeling alone?
Why do you keep wondering at mysteries unknown,
That swiftly in long ago breezes were blown?

How long to undo ocean’s mightiest stream
For a star to remember an unanswered dream
For the light in your eyes remember to gleam

How many decades for teardrops to yield
As long as moon shadows dance over the field
As long a it takes for a heart to be healed

How can you measure the moments you missed
In weeping for memories of when you were kissed?
It’s measured in dewdrops that settle in mist

How long does it take for a heartache to end
To smile as long as your heart can pretend
To get over a soulmate, a lover, a friend

How long does it take to forget and forgive
Forgiving is tossed in the sands that you sieve
To forget takes the rest of the days that you live

To mix wit, wisdom and metaphor is something only very special poets can do...

I love it when you see a challenge, and accept it as yours to take on...

thank you for this, Elizabeth.  It is a Keeper...

somethings live on forever, some take forever and a day... we all learn the virtue of patience... I hope I do that too...

Liz--You pose a poetic question and give answer with wisdom's words.  This is beautiful!

*sigh* it seems to take forever. You have said it perfectly. **big hugs** I know the feelings of which you write and I hope you do not have to feel them for too long.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

forever it seems
while its happening to you
almost forever
~*~
then when you're happy
it will seem like yesterday
when you forgave all

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Beautiful words. I really love this.

A true soulmate
is one not forgotten.
True heartache
will always hurt.
Forgiveness is the key
to serenity.
And should your soulmate
return someday,
embrace the chance
to love once more.

But just a rhymer like by chance..."

Yes, beautifully done!
I'm a philosophic soul and have often thought about the forgive and forget idea.
When we realize that the subject of our forgiveness is in our minds, occupying it, when we forgive, we forgive ourselves and clear our mindscape.
Just a thought.
