Yuma, Arizona-
Is a place carved out of Hell.
On the Colorado,
My friend, I know it well…

Me, and Dusty Taylor-
Did a nickle there one time,
And met old Red McMichaels-
Who was finishing a dime.

He said, “Boys, I was a rustler-
And a good one I suppose.
I made a right smart money,
Till Siringo got too close.

I’ve got eight years down on ten here
But I can’t stand the sun-
I’ll make my break next Sunday,
And you two ought to come.”

Old Dusty said, “What do you think?”
I said, “I think he’s nuts!
If the Yaqui scouts don’t get to him first,
The sun will bake his guts!”

McMichaels was no quitter-
He had to make his try.
I didn’t even turn my head
To watch the old man die.

I went and did my nickle-
And on my discharge day…
I said to Dusty, “They were right-
It’s true crime does not pay”.

You gave up on that nickle and dime stuff, didn't you? Yaws did a good write here.
