Oh God, please
don't let them clone ME!
For I am so imperfect,
what a mistake that would be,
to clone the likes of me,
a clown who walks around
not knowing up from down.
Oh God, please don't let them
clone the likes of ME.

But seriously, stem cell research
may be the only hope for some
who have suffered what is now
considered irrepairable nerve damage.
But please, don't clone the whole of ME,
nor anyone else that I can see.
I am more than a physical body.

Ah, the tides of medical research...how far DO we take God's creations...?

Good social poem.

Oh, gee, I meant to phone you
I'm trying hard to clone you
And I am having problems with it all.
I've gathered all the pieces
But the torment still increases
And has me beating fists against the wall!

I gathered up with care
Silk threads to make your hair
And colored them with gold light from the sun
The wind became your skin..
You voice- a violin
Your beauty unsurpassed by anyone.

Your lips were red of dawn
With storm clouds coming on..
Your eyes the blueness of the skies in June.
I made your touch so light
It made me smile at night
As I held you beneath a smiling moon.

But something went awry
For, hard as I may try,
I find myself forlorn and quite frustrated
For your beauty deep within
That dazzles mortal men
Is yours alone and can't be duplicated!

So listen to my moans...
Forget about those clones!
No dumb clone can replace the real you.
And, If I get my wish,
I'll see you in the flesh
And we can clone around...just me and you!

  Standing ovation !!!

Balladeer, this is in a class of it's own!
WOW. You really are an un-clonable Master!

Methinks you should re-post (re-clone?) this as a separate entity....

Midnitesun,
I thought they had standards for cloning.

Yes, LOL Larry. And they had to raise that standard marker pretty high for me, and they still couldn't quite capture me.  HAHA

*giggling* Well, I for one am all in favor of cloning Balladeer......one for each of us ladies would do just fine.

Bravo! A wonderful look into a scary science indeed. I get e-mails from CNN's "breaking news", and this one came in the other day. Gave me a little shiver to read it, wondering where it will go next. Nicely done Midnitesun!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Enchantress, Yes, Balladeer has done it again.
Ya try to be halfway serious, and look what ya get!  Seriously, it is a subject to ponder, scratch our heads and wonder.
OK giggling startime, I thought we all  agreed....no full bodied cloning, no matter how much easier it might make our lives to have an extra Balladeer when this model needs a break.

Kit, nice to see you. Yes, it makes you wonder who it is that will be in charge, who will make these decisions as to how far this goes. I really didn't like seeing duplicated cows or sheep.  But limited stem cell research for the benefit of combatting diabetes and the paralysis of spinal cord injuries....now that is another avenue in my mind. (I am still reading "Superman" Chris Reeves "Still ME" book.)

A cute write for a rather serious and misunderstood subject. I sit on the fence, trying to weight the good, against the possible bad. But hey, clone you???? Never, you are one alone dear lady, and we're so glad that you share yourself with us here. And I love Balladeers poem...how does he manage to come up with these wonderful verses so spontaneously???

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Yikes - the thought terrifies me, messing with creation!  And imagine, if they got the viles mixedup, we could humares, or worse yet, humonkies - eek!

And Balladeer, go stand in a corner    LOL

What would we do without him?

This was a great thinking poem, and am the fist to say, forget the cloning already, we are overpopulated as it is, and enjoy each day that you have!  Just my opinion.

Hey Tracey, I wondered the same thing about our ballad master. There would be no way to clone that entity. LOL, one is enough for all of us to share!
Guess everyone on the fence will eventually have to find out which side to fall down on, as it will some day be impossible to sit there and simply ponder the implications of our feeble attempts to replace (or clone?)the Creator.

Mysteria, your laughter made me laugh.
Yes, I agree, overpopulation is already an issue on this planet. Helping the bodies andsouls that are alredy here is moral, re-creating LIFE? I like the old fashioned way, and prefer not to see duplicates, or as you say...
what about potential  "accidents???"
Let's leave the overall process of creation  to someone wiser than all of us combined.

You do have a unique way of expressing your thoughts, Kacy, always appreciated.
As opposed to the 'dancin dunkin donut' handle...not funny, not laughing.  (Ok, maybe just a little.)  I thought I made it very clear that in spite of my name, if I were to be a donut, I would be a Krispy Kreme!

When I first heard it on the news, I too was a bit alarmed but now that I know they have put Balladeer in charge of it all ... well, let's just say, I feel more at ease.    We all know how easy it is to distract him and by the time he gets the hair and face done, then he will be so proud and amazed that he will just drool for ages.  Wonderful write and it does leave much for us to ponder.

Daniel , thanks for visiting. Yes, it is a heavy subject to ponder.

Mark, LOL at your comment. Thanks for the visit. But you think we are safe with Balladeer????? LOL. You may be right, since we keep him dancin and cavorting on the blue pages so much, he has no time for Cloning 101 lab.

Isn't it rich
What we can do?
Microbes and atoms can
Turn into you...

Send in the clones..

No more alone
Will I spend nights
I can make you to fulfill
My delights..

Send in the clones.
Quick! Send in the clones..

Just when I thought
I'd never win
Science has found me a way
To begin.
Here in my lab with a strand of your hair
Presto! It's done! You're standing there..

Hey, what goes on?
I am agog!!
Somebody slipped me the hair
Of a dog..

Send in the clones
Please send in the clones
Well, maybe next year

You are in for it now, my friend.
I knew we should have locked the door to that lab!!!!

PS, this tune of yours sings nicely out loud
Was that Frank outside my door?

Good fun and the bottom line a good reminder, We are more than a physical body.  I always wondered at the notion of them preserving Einstein's brain for the future, as if a brain could contain a mind.

Joe, thank you for the comment. Yes, it is rather strange that someone would attempt to know Einstein from his brain. I found that to be an insult to the man.

Elizabeth, thank you. This is a very difficult subject to approach. I found this avenue of approach to be less didactic and argumentative than other methods.
